"McGregor is the first UFC champion from the United Kingdom and Ireland"

Its clear as day the journo is claiming a uk champion.

If he wasnt hed have put "the first ufc... from either the uk or ireland" or better still just left the uk out of the sentence altogether.

Its like when the daily mail claimed Britain's Katie Taylor had reached another major final.

While it's a bit of a wierd addition to include the UK (wtf?), the comments on this thread would make you think the UK and Ireland are on other sides of the globe with no similarities as opposed to part of the same group of islands who share the actual island if Ireland, who speak the same language, do huge amounts of trade together (and helped bail them out) and are historically linked, with huge cross overs of genetics between the two countries.

Stop hating your British neighbours <grr>

Why mention the UK at all when an Irishman wins a UFC title?

I have seen first hand the anti Irish sentiment in London, talk to your brethrin first before preaching on here <laugh>

BBC called Colin Farrell "one of our own" when doing very well in Hollywood, when interviewing Samuel jackson too. Jackson let em have it for that <laugh>

Barry McGuigan also suddenly became "british" when he won a world boxing title.

I agree, it's a weird one to include the UK lol

As for London being anti-Irish, I have to say having lived here my whole life that there is no great anti-Irish conspiracy that I've noticed! <laugh>

Here's the exchange <laugh> Samuel L Jackson and Kate Thornton

Kate: What's it like working with Colin Farrell, cause he is just so hot in the UK right now

Samuel: He’s pretty hot in the US too

Kate: Yea, but he’s one of our own!

    Samuel: Isn’t he from Ireland?

Kate: Yea but we claim him because Ireland is beside us

Samuel: Ya see that’s your problem right there. You British keep claiming people that don’t belong to you. We had that problem in America too – it was called slavery

    2 points

    1. The private banks were bailed out and the bill put onto the sovereign debt. Nobody bailed out Ireland ,we didn't need a bailout. Ireland in fact has bailed out Europe by shouldering 47% of the burden. That's 2% of the European population paying 47% of the burden go figure.

    2. The UK actually owes Ireland more money than Ireland owes the UK. The UK owes Ireland €113.5bn and Ireland owes the UK €104.5bn.

Give us our 9bn ye bastards

    ROFL.
My brother fights in the UK equivalent of UFC, called UWC.
    It is not fake.

EDIT: I should say, he USED to fight for them, till his dystrophy made him retire.

the only issue i have with UFC is it's quality is in doubt a bit.

Its no doubt big business and on the way up still but........... you still have to just question... are there enough guys and are they actually that good sometimes.

boxing has become so fractured and just plain silly that its impossible to know who is the best... but.... the inevitable questions arise about ufc when brock lesner heads off to wwe.

but then so did mayweather for a bit of fun.

    It is funny.
The English are so starved of sporting glory we have to try steal other countries contestants.
At least Andy Murray is British though ffs. As big a bell end as he is.
    But the Republic <laugh>

Our cricket and rugby teams ain't too bad though I hear. Not that I watch either, but still.....
