Now anyone who reads my posts will know that I'm Mr Happy, glass half full, happy clapper, the eternal optimist. Well I still am in general but finding it harder with my football, maybe its just this international break, has it really only been 2 weeks.
I sat down to watch both the England games and did not get through either, repeats of Have I Got News For You on Dave were far more appealing, and I had seen them more than once.
Its now Thursday and that tingle should be starting, football on Saturday, but still nothing there.
I scan the gossip columns but again nothing and TBH when I do see a rumour I don't believe it. I know we will be after Messi and that's what we will get, a deadline day messy loan signing.
Now it would be all to easy to put this down to our disappointing season so far but I don't think it is. Many will tell me how its because of months of Bruce, his tactics and his style, I know its not because I still like Bruce, maybe he is a small part but I honestly know it is a small part.
I put it down to a combination of a few things, starting with everyday life. Mine I admit is fine, I have had little for some time and when you have little after years of having lots, well in my case, it was a relief, I have more than enough and am content.
That said I hear it every day, every news bulletin is full of it, crisis, unemployment, cuts, rising prices, austerity, another soldier killed, another uprising with thousands killed, ****ing X Factor.
Football being full of players I no longer recolonise, over paid young men who only hit the news when they are drunk, moaning or in bother.
Then we have our lot, the big one, a magic carpet that has stalled, big signings coming in is now big signings wanting out. We had 3 big positives, well I remember when they were positives.
Short, a good man and a very rich man, said little but backed the club 100%, we just knew he was with us and would take us forward. Now chairman and now even more quiet than he was, and that was never rowdy.
Bruce, an honest man and a good man, said it like it was, attracted good players who wanted to be here, starting with Bent. Now constantly fighting for his job and under pressure, losing those good players and unsure what to do with the ones he has left.
Quinn, Mr Sunderland and when all around was falling apart big Niall would come out, calm us down and preach success, we would feel better. Can anyone remember the last time you heard him speak.
I will be there on Saturday, same routine, same seat but not the same enthusiasm.
I feel myself slowly falling out of love with the beautiful game, maybe its just the winter.
