I wonder if Vettel spun when Lewis overtook as Ferrari use inwash and Merc use outwash front wing. Maybe that contributed to Vettel losing downforce and spinning?
Pressure building on Seb now, he got the lead and looked to be running off but then just pure and simple bottled it.
Was that Alfa/Sauber I saw in 4th pos on constructors championship??? What an improvement over the last 2 years!! There is hope for Williams.
If last season wasn't enough to get some people at Ferrari wondering just what it is they're getting in return for the £30m a year they pay Vettel, then only two races into this season they must be. Protected from being overtaken by a rookie last time out, and a habitual crack under pressure today. Time and time again, when faced with real competition (instead of the cakewalks he had in a Red Bull far and away the class of the field) he's found wanting.
Gut wrenching for LeClerc, but hopefully, it's a message to Ferrari anyway. He's the man they need to be backing for this championship.
FP1: Ferrari 1-2 FP2: Ferrari 1-2 FP3: Ferrari 1-2 Q1: Ferrari 1-2 Q2: Ferrari 1-2 Q3: Ferrari 1-2 Race: Mercedes 1-2 LeClerc has been told not to pass in one race and had a MGU-H failure in the other. He's still ahead of Vettel in the standings.
It would make sense to back Vettel this year given his experience, but in reality, they might want to let Leclerc go for it. He's clearly got the talent. They've done well getting him in the car!
Do you think you could superimpose Vettel's face onto man with wheelbarrow, it would be very appropriate.
My summary: Great race- really do enjoy Bahrain. LeClerc = cool, calm, and FAST. Great weekend from him. Vettel = He’s like a poker player on tilt. Bring the damn points home Seb, stop spinning! Hamilton- As usual, gets his elbows out and wins the tight fights with rivals (Bottas and Vettel) that gave him the chance to maximise his points. Bottas- Really poor mistake under braking to let LeClerc past. Average weekend. Red Bull: What happened to your beautifully packaged monster machine that you call Honda? Just kidding, traction issues slowed them all weekend but who cares as long as Max V doesn’t win a world title. McLaren- Just where would Sainz have finished if he didn’t try and pass Forcefield Crashstappen? McLaren dare I say it looked GOOD this weekend?! Renault: Hulk showing he’s absolute quality. Ricciardo wondering who the hell hes signed for. Two PUs in the same two seconds? Weird stuff. They need to up their game. Haas: Rubbish race, humble pie time for the big bold statements from that numpty at Rich Energy about beating Red Bull Grosjean has had another poor weekend, and a dangerous incident in qualifying. How many more chances? If you watched the Netflix documentary, you will know that he will be on his way this year when Seargent Steiner finally blows his top when patience wears thin. Toro Rosso, FI, and Williams were all pretty poor this weekend. What will China bring I wonder. Bring it on.
Once again we see car No 44 being able to race the faster Ferrari's and get results. His pass on Vetel was epic.
Just a thought, would be salivating more over Norris's drives in Aus and Bar more if his name was Fernando Alonso? I don't think he's getting the credit he deserves here. Last year Alonso did about the same in the first 2 GP's and everyone is saying he is the saviour of McLaren, the true great etc etc. Norris has done the same in his first ever 2 GP's, comprehensively outqualified and out raced Sainz, a far better driver than Vandoorne was, and yet its all a bit quiet. Just saying................
I feel sorry for Russel. He could be the fastest guy on the track and we'd never know. He cant be judged vs his team mate and the cars 1.5s behind the next slowest. Lando has done well against a quality team mate, better than I expected to be honest. Even Albon is going well, I thought he was a bit of a F2 journeyman but he had a cracking race.
Norris was my special mention on the awards thread. He is doing what Le Clerc did last year (at the moment).
