I've just remembered when watching the box or listening to the radio, if you wanted tot watch or listen to a programme you had to do it in good time as it always took a while before the radio/Tv worked whilst the valves warmed up. When you turned the TV off it took a while to cool down and the picture reduced until there was only a small dot in the middle.
