When i first arrived here i rented a Hyundai I30 for 2 weeks whilst we were getting sorted out. Very surprised at how good it was. Drove and handled well and comfortable at speed. Shame it was bright red and looked like a post box on wheels ! PS. was voted small car of the year for 3 consecutive years over here !
I'm guessing the Mazda 3 has overtaken it on that score recently Queens? I've not driven one but they look decent from the outside.
Good gods but they're scary!! Here in Houston, the breakdown numbers wise seems to be about 20% normal cars, 40% SUV's and the rest F150's and the like. And when I say SUV's I'm including things like the Lincoln Continental which is the size of a truck! It's bloody terrifying driving along in my 335i, especially when half the people on the roads can't drive - I saw someone reversing down the hard shoulder because they missed their junction on the freeway once! I'm planning on toying around with my BMW a bit, and eventually qualifying for a Dinan badge. That'll give it the performance of an M3, by the time I'm done..... Anyone any experience of doing that?
I guarantee you my latest baby will give a good run against anyone ... My lady (petrol head) has a beautiful tweaked M330i with all the goodies you can think of yet she now prefers the saab. If you need a little project then its this easy buy a 52 Saab Aero HOT for 2K! take it to a decent Saab tuner buy a Maptun kit and take it up to say 315bhp to start with ... by then you will already have a super car. I have a surprise nearly everyday in mime ... it's the faces of the Audi or Imprezza drivers i love the best they can't stand it if i decide to give out a lesson. Honestly best 5 grand i have spent and won't swap ever. Our friends in Essex are supercar owners and he changes his car every six months and does all the rallies ... its of great testament that he himself is building a play saab: How high can you take them? there's a classic car show in the RDS in Dublin on feb 9th and 10th if anyone's in that direction. might pop up myself for some car porn!
I've just landed a new ( well decidedly secondhand ) motor, an old Alfa 164 mot failure from my local garage. Free if I tow it away this week Perfect for the snow
That's funny Houston. Are you American or British? They do drive some absolute monsters over there don't they? Can't quite understand their fixation with huge pickup trucks. I knew you'd come out with that one! Good news for you Oddball. Saab mightn't be dead and buried after all. They're talking about setting up a new HQ in Oz! Maybe Queens could confirm or deny?
Christ i would prefer the brand dies than they be built in Oz they would be using corrugated tin look at the new prototype:
Nah Swords, I'm from Basingstoke originally - only been here a couple of years. I think here in Texas there's some kind of size fixation - like they're trying to live up to the saying 'Everything's bigger in Texas'!!
Yes mate. If you think everything is huge in the rest of America, you should visit Texas. Everything is fu*king massive, innit? The people are so obese that they need these huge Yank Tanks just to haul their fat asses around. (Not all of them of course, that's a slight exaggeration.) What a strange yet wonderful place!
I'm surprised by that. Statistically, two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese. Maybe you're in skinnyville!
Not heard anything about that yet but I'll have a look for you. For the record, I drove a Sabb 9000 for about a year and it was one of the best cars I had driven. Bit heavy but it never went wrong and was great for the kids and stuff. Got it from a mate who runs a showroom in NORTHOLT near the Brookhouse !
Looks like TF's new venture is moving on nicely http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26987
