    Now you're talking DT

I had a 92 'grale evo 1 about 10 years ago that I bought in Bolzano northern Italy and caned back over the alps. A truly great car. I paid €5000 for it and sold it for £7k. Now they're pushing £20k! Crazy money

If you're getting one I can lend you my brook lands guide to the delta

Strangely I also had a ghibli cup when I went through my Maserati phase. A great ugly/beautiful car but the engines do the turbos with frightening regularity. Make sure you fit a turbo timer mate. I sold mine - again for bloody peanuts, I think they only made 30 cups! and traded sideways to a khamsin. Now that was a car

I'm currently going through a Daimler phase and there's a lovely lilac 74 double six on eBay at the moment. I can't stretch to a Bristol 411 or beaufighter which is what I'd really like so the daimlers are a good way of scratching that itch

Swords - no I didn't have a 131 miafiori sadly but my mate did. I had a Capri 2.0S which was the nuts back in the 80's. No I'm currently running an Alfa 164 as a winter car whilst the big merc is safely garaged

Oddball, you're right about car's styling. In general, I don't like the look of modern cars. They're too curved and a lot of them look "bubble-like". The real ugly ones look like summat you might find living at the bottom of the ocean. Crossovers are the ugliest of the lot, IMO. Many of them resemble an ugly rhinoceros. Na, I prefer the old car look with nice straight lines and a regular rectangular shape. Cars that look like, you know, cars!

That said, as far as modern cars go, I do really like the look of the GT86!

I never had any issues with the 911's and other drivers. I now use a 2012 M3 Coupe as an everyday car. I seem to get more aggravation in that, mainly people tailgating on motorways. The 12C just gets smiles and waves really and I tend to use that on sunny weekends only.

Nice anotherwat.....2012 M3 as an everydayer.........sweet...great car with a bit of poke. Is the M5 a better car to drive than the M3. I've always held the M5 as the best "sporty saloon" ever. Am i wrong or is it a size thing. point to point, wha would be faster better? i ask as you obviously have to means to have tried both.

    Would love your opinion.

PS..the 12C is a maclaren isnt it? have you seriously got one of them...very beautifull motor and looks that kill everything else....Thats from memory...gonna go google it to make sure now....! if its the motor i think, then you REALLY need to post pics up to show what a "proper' motor looks like?

PS. How many stables do you own ? <laugh>

I agree, M5 is a better car than the M3, although a new M3 and M4 (coupe/cab version) will be out by next year. I am sure they will be amazing.

I cannot seem to upload photos but a friend's son went and put something on You Tube a year ago when I took him for a spin.

That is bang on Imaz I may have already stated last year my two best cars i have owned .. my Uno and my Cinquecento both after massive life disasters and they got me back... went from M5 and a 528i to Uno in the 90's .. followed by a S3 to a Cinquecento in 00's. I am no real petrol head and grew into Saabs because that was at the time the only thing i could afford. You are 100% correct and if I take a deep breath then my life was probably the most happiness when I was driving my Uno and then later my Cinquecento around France ... i attracted beautiful women with real soul and if i am totally honest today I live with a lovely person but who is a petrol head, Londoner and consumer ... Thank you for pointing this out Imaz you have not have seen the relevance of the post but i have a moment of clarity ... I have away everything in the 00's and it was the best i have felt, today i have money again but routine .... Fiats in fact balance out life exactly in the right way

Interesting isn't it? I'm no petrolhead, frankly have no idea about the workings of the internal combustion engine, and probably would not invest serious cash of my own in a motor. I like style, imagination and fun in a car though. Had a track day a couple of years ago, drove the Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin etc, then got back into my Golf MkV GTI Pirelli Edition for the drive home and immediately felt 'now you're talking'. Biggest mistake of my car owning life was buying this off the leasing firm at end of contract (it was a company car) then selling it immediately for a 3 grand profit (leasing company too stupid to know that what they had leased me had some value).Replaced with a 3 series company car for sensible reasons - mileage, tiny tax bill etc etc. Its so ****ing boring its dangerous to drive, zero engagement. And there's another two and a half years on the contract! Seriously thinking of feigning arthritis in the left knee, telling my firm it hurts to operate the clutch so I need to switch (serious financial punishments for backing out of a lease early, so have to be clever), then opting out of the company scheme altogether.
At which stage I will be back on here with my budget, taking advice.

It's all relative queens. A few years back I was lucky enough to purchase my dream car, an '86 single mirror testarossa. It was a great car and I loved it. At the same time I was running an A35 4 door. It was also brilliant but in completely opposing ways. My kids hated the testa but always nagged me to take them to school in the A35

    Sometimes less IS more

Queens when I get home i will try and post up picture of Mrs DT and myself in exactly the same McLaren hence why i asked IwasanotherwatfordR is he knows a Mr Simon Kent. He has just sold his and reverted back to a special edition Ferrari. (he buys and sells these cars as a hobby!) My lady was Supercar mad for 10 years or more and today we mix still in her old social circles and they all have these amazing cars and everyone knows everyone it seems.

The McLaren was sold for a loss last autumn and by all accounts they are not everything they were made out to be. My own view was that it was like sitting in a large orange tupperware bowl. Yes it was super fast but I have to agree a little with SK that there seems very little soul.

Queens, yes it really is my car.

DT, I don't know Simon Kent. I hail from a very working class background, as do most of my friends and I don't really socialise in circles with other people who are as very fortunate as I am to be able to waste cash on cars as perhaps stupidly as I do. The 12C's, like any car (except the odd classic) do depreciate. Once they have had the (free of charge) 2013 upgrades they are as "soulful" as a 458 Ferrari and unlike Ferrari dealers, in my experience, McLaren are fabulous to deal with and don't make you feel like a tramp in a Louis Vuitton shop. The truth is, nowadays any current hot hatchback or powerful saloon is so well engineered and performs so well that any normal driver just will never get near the limits. The supercars are just show pieces that rarely get tracked or used to more than 40% of their abilities. For that reason, cars like the old 500 Abarth that do allow mortals to scream them around are just as entertaining, if perhaps not as beautiful or aspirational. If any of you guys are ever near the area, feel free to PM me and I would be happy to take you out for a spin.

WBA - James Hunt drove an A35 van for years and during most of the time he was at the pinnacle of F1, so you are not the only person who rates them for entertainment. I think that is why the GT86 Toyota is supposed to be such fun, in that it is engineered to be controllably tail happy.
