Wouldn't be much fun in predicting Monaco if we know the qualifying result...

Couldn't sleep last night so decided to get up for FP2, somewhat interesting. Have Merc been bluffing?

Well if practice is to go by, then I'm well out on what I thought the pecking order would be.

every single time Mercedes and hamilton have been out ****eing on about someone being faster they have been proven liars.

seems to me it's been proven again.

if they'd been really worried you could tell from body language.

they've just been bullshitting in interviews as it's easier than answer actual questions about their own team.imo.

The Anglo/German collaboration along with the Scottish Grenadian speedster just keeps raising the bar. I can see Schumacher's pole record in Aus being equalled by you know who tomorrow .

It's just what they do. I just don't know why people put any store in anything they say. Isaid as much in testing thread. They clearly proved by end they had the speed.

My prediction for the race was hamilton pole and vettel to win based o nwhat we have seen. tyre wear is my opinion where this will be decided (bar crashes)

Could it be that Ferrari are sandbagging this time. Last years pole was Lewis at 1.21.1 and today's 2FP was 1.22.6. They all turn the engines up for quali so maybe Ferrari aren't pushing the PU during FP but until quali?

Seems to me Ferrari might be chewing their tyres Mark because they were excellent on the harder compounds.

If they can limit the damage before their first pit stop OR get to Q3 on the medium tyre they will go really well in the race.

Hoping the midfield pack can close the gap to the front a bit more- that’s the key gap in the sport at the moment IMO.

If we're honest we're still in the dark.

Tomorrow we get an idea, then an even better idea on Sunday. But then Aus is a bit of an outlier track wise so in reality we still don't know!

We'll know in Abu Dhabi who had the best car, unless the person with the best car kept crashing, but then was it the best car if it kept crashing, or did they lose their head, or was it in fact the person who won who had the best car and the other person was trying to hard and out driving the other car.

    Love F1.

    so 2018:

    Aussie GP

    First Practice
    Albert Park, 23 March 2018
    Driver Team Fastest Lap
    1 Hamilton Mercedes 1:24.026
    2 Bottas Mercedes 1:24.577
    3 Verstappen Red Bull 1:24.771
    4 Kimi Ferrari 1:24.875
    5 Vettel Ferrari 1:24.995

    Second Practice
    Albert Park, 23 March 2018
    Driver Team Fastest Lap
    1 Hamilton Mercedes 1:23.931
    2 Verstappen Red Bull 1:24.058
    3 Bottas Mercedes 1:24.159
    4 kimi Ferrari 1:24.214
    5 Vettel Ferrari 1:24.451

Albert Park, 24 March 2018 = Fastest Lap
    Driver Team Q1, Q2 Q3
    1 Hamilton Mercedes 1:22.824 1:22.051 1:21.164
    2 Kimi Ferrari 1:23.096 1:22.507 1:21.828
    3 Vettel Ferrari 1:23.348 1:21.944 1:21.838
    4 Verstappen Red Bull 1:23.483 1:22.416 1:21.879

    This years Practice 2:
    Driver Team Fastest Lap
    1 HAM Mercedes 00:01:22.600
    2 BOT Mercedes 00:01:22.648
    3 VPN Red Bull 00:01:23.400
    4 GAS Red Bull 00:01:23.442
    5 VET Ferrari 00:01:23.473

    what does that tell you?

MAYBE it tells me MAYBE that the teams have different approaches to practice (we know this) and hamilton has gone 1.3 seconds faster than last years free practice. Vettel has gone 1 second faster.

the cars are faster than last year (we know this already)

does this mean hamilton has pulled 0.3 seconds more out of the car.. no... does it mean ferrari have no more pace.. no.

Its still only in quali and after the race that we can say who's got the best quali car and best race car as usual.

I would bet on hamilton pole though... that was my feeling going into week and i'm sticking by it.

Indeed, have to believe they are in trouble and most likely for the whole season. I now believe Paddy went before his reputation got any worse. Can't see him back in F1. He won't be the first nor the last. I expect he is sorted and doesn't need to worry about putting food on the table.
I feel for the team, their morale must be rock bottom but sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can turn it around, assuming you have the opportunity to do so. 4 secs, where do you start? On the plus side, no one, with any experience, could do any worse than has been done already.
