Best case scenario for us now would be if Danny renews on the proviso that that he can leave for circa £15-20m next summer. That way he'd probably still get his move next year, but we'd actually get some money for it. Doubt it will happen though.
Will depend on his effort and attitude. If he looks half-arsed and his form dips, then I think the booing will be justified. Think it's fair to say that to an extent we saved his bloody career, and now he's treating the club like this. Fully understand why some fans would be pissed off with him.
Treating the fans like what? We have no divine right to get him to agree to a new contract. He isn't demanding a transfer, he's just playing out the terms initially agreed with the club. Terms that were pretty favourable to us given his production. I really don't think he owes us anything.
So you'll be perfectly happy for him to keep us hanging, and then, when Spurs come in for him on deadline day, leave us with no time to find a replacement?
Spurs may well come in for him on deadline day and unless they're offering stupid money (which they won't) they will get told to **** off.
He isn't keeping us hanging. It appears that he has made his position clear at this point...it's up to us to figure out what our position will be. If we sell him on deadline day, without having lined up a replacement, that's just terrible management on our part.
It's been reported he's aware he's likely to be here next season and is fine with it. He's not trying to force through a transfer this summer and never will.
Then we should probably make up our mind about how we wish to proceed early, and then hold to it. That's the very definition of our problem, and not Ings'.
Depends on what our ownership situation looks like. If we are not going to have new owners in short order, I'd sell him and hope for the best, because I don't think we have the resources to let him walk and replace him even halfway adequately. If we are going to be sold before the end of the year, I'd hang on to Ings, because it vastly increases our odds of staying up, and a new owner will (hopefully) not have the same shoestring budget.
That just adds more variables haha. Personally I'd say to Ings that he can either; a) sign a contract extension with a release clause of 16-18m, or b) we will sign a replacement, and he (Ings) can expect to spend a lot of time on the bench, not out of spite, but because Ralph needs to start preparing for a future without him.
Thats if we can afford to sign a replacement player whilst still keeping Ings and addressing other areas of need, from what the finance experts are saying we can’t
On balance i would sell Ings if we can get decent enough money to reinvest in the team. I dont think we are a club that can really afford to just let players contracts run down without cashing in. There are various caveats to that thought i.e. we have to have players lined up from any Ings money that would make us stronger all round without him. Its not a stragiht forward decision because he is a good player
How much is "decent money" though? £10m? £25m? The likes of Everton or West Ham might be willing to splash out a bit for him this summer. But why would he want to go there, if he feels he could join City or Chelsea (for example) for free next summer?
Because the offer is on the table now, earn 150k or whatever from an Everton now or run the risk that a top team still wants you next summer for free. The only way I see him leaving is to a West Ham/Everton who would pay now to have exclusive rights to talk to him instead of a potential free for all next summer
