With Liverpool having limited funds this window, I have a feeling he may go back there and we end up with mini metro and some money. Just an opinion of course.
I'd be highly amused if we sold him back to Liverpool for 30mill, meaning we'd have gained 10mill from them, plus had Danny's best years.
One thing I'd be worried about if Ings stays this season is the idiots of our fanbase booing him. And then me getting arrested after smacking one of them.
Its a bit of a double edged sword. One the one hand his goals have been so important to us (when fit). Our squad is depleted and to deprive ourselves of his talents for this coming season puts us at risk (as it stands, l think we are already at some risk). Finding a striker capable of scoring circa 15 goals a season is a big ask. On the other side, to keep someone who wants to earn another signing on fee and shot at a trophy, can lead to an unhealthy changing room (our defensive fragility seems to suggest it is not great as it is). The VVD situation, certainly poisoned that well. Selling also provides much needed cash, although with our cash strapped owner, there is no guarantee that it will not end up in his back pocket. Am really not sure what the answer is. I do feel regret that he is off and although l understand his motives, l cannot help that we resurrected a career that was on a downward spiral, or, at best, was not going forwards.
Really doesn’t bother me as he was never going to sign a new contract. Get the best money we can for him and move on. Rumours JV in discussions with Spurs??
I can definitely see spurs making a move for Vesty especially if the Toby to leave rumours are true. Sailsu is a ready made replacement for Vesty, but we would still need to replace though….unless they are happy for Jack to cover.
Ah this is ****. Surprised how calm everyone is on here - shows we are all used to this!! Replacing ings with our budget is pretty much impossible. Obviously we can’t keep him if he doesn’t want to be here. I also can’t begrudge him a move to a higher level, as he is worthy of playing at a higher level. It’s just going to leave us royally ****ed. I was hoping Ings would be different as he’s from the area etc.
Well my prediction before the season ended was that we would sell Ings and Vestergaard to fund our summer spending, and the rumours make it sound like this is going to happen. Just have to hope that the signings work out as we are in real trouble without those 2 if they don’t
It’s a hard thing to balance, the risk in my mind is he gets a lengthy injury and we end up using the last year of his contract up just treating him for his next club.
Hope it doesn’t drag too much, as it all gets a bit tedious. Think we will struggle without him, but he’s not bigger than the club. We could do with a season where the new signings hit the ground running like the old days!
The ones who are are the ones who aren’t good enough for bigger teams. The list of teams who would be considered an upgrade/bigger is growing each season I’d say though, and will continue to until we have a decent owner
Yeah it does feel that way. I’ll be honest now - I fear for our safety next season without Ings’ goals. It will be hard to replace that many. Hopefully we can pull another rabbit out of the hat, but so much of our good play comes through him.
If Ings has rejected our final offer then get rid immediately for as close to £40m as possible, that would help rebuild the squad His goals have been vital but his constant injury record means he is generally only available for half the season anyway So much for being a Saints fan...bye bye money grabber
If he was a money grabber he would have stayed at Liverpool in the first place. Don't understand the animosity towards him TBH. And we won't get anywhere near 40mill for him.
He is probably the most gifted finisher we have had in the PL, but due to the amount of time he was injured last season his goal output was limited. We probably won’t find someone as good as him for many years, but if we can find an above average striker who stays fit for a full season we may end up with a similar amount of goals. Che is still improving as well which helps. Not to say Ings won’t be a MASSIVE loss though.
One thing Danny won't do is cause a scene if he doesn't get his move this summer (unlike some). Says on BBC he's accepted that Saints may not sell him.
everyone is calm because this isn’t exactly “news” to anyone on here. It seems to be news to the wider football community but it is not news to any Saints fans The contract has been on the table pretty much all year from what I understand. And he hasn’t signed it He was never going to
