If England do end up losing the series 3-2 it will be a damning indictment of the preparation, and of the players' mental attitude.

England finally bat well, only to have rain and bad light wipe out half the opening day’s play :headbang:

211 for 3 with Root and Brook unbeaten in their 70’s and an unbroken stand of 154.

Hopefully Root gets another century to push him a bit closer to becoming the highest run scorer in test match cricket.

Ever.

No pressure on them now.

When there were expectations and the hopes of a Nation riding on them, they nearly all choked.
Now it's an exhibition game with nothing riding on it at all (and frankly 99% of sports media attention having moved on) they can suddenly play.

Rooooooooooooooooooooooooooot - 138 not out

Edit - fell on 160

Normal service has been resumed. Our bowlers for this test would struggle against a decent village team.

BBC viewers have selected a team of the series. It includes 6 England players and 5 Australian players. So, no change then?

I get the impression that in some quarters they are trying to paper over this disaster, because England won a match.
That is being regarded by some as enough justification for everything to just carry on as it was before.

Before the series began, a 4-1 defeat with the Ashes gone after 3 tests (11 days play) would not have been acceptable to anyone.
But surprisingly it is now being passed off as 'progress'.

You have to remember though, that these are the same BBC viewers who think Sir Snear and Labour are doing a jolly good job of running the country.

Any enquiry into the Ashes debacle should be headed by Sir Geoffrey Boycott. He tells it as it is. OK,I know, it won't happen.
It would last longer than the Covid enquiry, Hillsborough enquiry and Post Office enquiry combined, but would be very thorough and precise.

Following the England cricket team is just like following the Scotland football team back in the day. The players disgrace them selves, get into fights , can't handle their booze and get thrashed on the field. Meanwhile the fans are made welcome, mix with the locals, and are praised by ground staff for cleaning up after them and are great ambassadors for their country.

'Back in the day', bring the bleedin' goalposts back, please! :emoticon-0103-cool:
