Joe Root must have thought at one point that he had made the wrong call putting them into bat. England had a very poor session after lunch.

England 10-2 after five overs. Another duck for Root. Not the start that we wanted.

Look on the positive side. England can't be asked to follow on.

The bowlers must think why do they bother when the batsmen totally fall apart !

Aussies aren't much better but even without Smith they can get to 100..

Maybe we need to look at importing some overseas batsmen too ?!

Shame - was looking forward to a Bank Holiday off watching the cricket .

I was there yesterday. Woeful England batting but a superb bowling display by the Australians and then they showed us how to bat in these conditions. A great days cricket on a very hot and beautiful day. We messed up our excellent chance to square the series. I hope Archer is Ok and Stokes bowling at the end was awesome almost made up for his batting swipe. Root the only one to be forgiven for his batting as he got a good one. I do wonder about his captaincy.

Who would have guessed that we only need another 200 runs to win, and still have 7 wickets in hand? Stokes received 50 balls and left 40 of them alone. Not normal.

My grandson has received some cricket coaching from the staff at Yorkshire. They are taught all the array of shots to play, but little about defending and seeing a game out. The youngsters all play limited overs games where you do not play for a draw. I suspect some of the English problems stem from this.

Exactly what Geoffrey said about his own county in the commentary yesterday.

Stokes and Bairstow looking pretty solid - even playing a few shots .

Get it down to 80 or so and it's on .

A real game of Test cricket here. It has to be England's morning.

That is completely untrue. Who needs T20?

  20. He deserves loads of credit for that. Very gutsy under that pressure. The Aussies will be in bits now. What a series.
England and Australia yet again doing their bit for test cricket
