What a great game, Anderson and Bell, closely followed by Agar with the bat, the stand out players, so England just about deserve it. Shame it was decided by a review. The Aussies will never give up, but I can't see where the big innings are going to come from for them.
brilliant test match. Lets hope the next 9 are just as good. I think England will drop Finn for Bresnan at Lords but really Bresnan pitch wise would have been better at Trent Bridge and Finn likely to be better at Lords. Cook might not have made as many runs as he would have liked but his use of the DRS compared to Clarke was crucial. India used it brilliantly in the ICC tournament just gone and Cook was a little poor but he made some great calls over the 5 days and with a small winning margin arguably that was the difference between winning and losing.
Apart from Clarke their top order are very ordinary. Their lower order all bat though, as they have shown in this match.
A modern day Kim Hughes, all I recall about him was his tears when he lost a series - I think it could've been the Ashes in '81. I seem to remember the English media were surprised, this being the era of Lillie/Marsh/Chappell etc. My Aussie mates are mixed on him, the ones that don't like him think he's too much like Beckham (not meant as a compliment) in that he's more interested in the celebrity side.
Yep.............. but he has matured a little from where he was. In regards to the game, as history will show, the Aussies fight all the way to the end but if you look at the two teams, if both sides continue to play to their abilities, similar results may just continue throughout the series. Well done, England.
Great test match. The Aussies will always fight hard! Bell and Anderson were the main difference which meant that England, as Clarke said, deserved the win.
Well said Col, how many times did that match see saw - I thought it was won and lost about four times each over the five days. I hope the next nine are as good!
It was gripping stuff....Was actually playing golf yesterday morning but kept checking the bbc website in between shots to keep updated....honestly thought the aussies were going to scrap home when they only needed 15 to win.....great drama. If the next 20 days of test cricket are as good as the last 5 we are going to be in one hell of a series....
For those in the area there is a England v Aussies legends match (Gough, Strauss, Tufnell, Ramprakesh etc) at Wormsley High Wycombe on Wednesday. Was offered a ticket which included refreshments, but sadly have to work....
Just seen the second part of a drama about World Series Cricket/Kerry Packer on BBC4. It was great, now need to catch the first part on iPlayer - highly recommended. My the Goanna was an ugly chap. I thought the actor who played him was a decent likeness until I saw a picture of the real him at the end and the full horror came back. Still he died with $6billion, so he didn't let it hold him back.
Aussies are not good. England are not as good AS THEY THINK THEY ARE. Could be a close series. Unless we drop Finn. Then we'll hammer them.
Dont drop Finn for the Lords game, give him a go, he'll come good, you'll see a total of 8 wicket for him and an England comfortable win, just hope it gets to Sunday, I have a ticket.
Packer may have had a head like a mongrel dog but he had a heart of gold when it came to the world of cricket.
Finn would probably be dropped if the next game was anywhere but Lords. I think he'll play and will come good.
Ah, but now my friend, we have a genuine excuse for not only not winning a game .......... but the series ! Seems some of our players hate each other so without further a do, we reserve the right to mimic the England Football Team. The only difference is, they have copious amounts talent, whereas we don't. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cr...Watson-relationship-cancer-dividing-team.html
