The Barmy Army must have spent a bloody fortune to witness the surrender first-hand. I hope they manage to have a good time in between the cricket.
Joe Root looked punch drunk after. It’s all very well saying Melbourne is a “massive” game - not when it’s 0-3 it isn’t.
Australia have Everthing we don’t have: Guts A good captain Fast and aggressive bowlers A very good spinner
I’m not sure what was more worrying, the abject performance or the comments of Trevor Bayliss and Joe Root after. They are deluding themselves if they think we have been competitive - we have had 2/3 decent sessions in 3 Test Matches, FFS. Nor is this a “young team that will improve” - Cook, Broad and Anderson are royally past it, Moeen the spinner who doesn’t spin is not far behind. Even Dawid Malan - half decent so far - is aged 30. Australia No. 9 Pat Cummins averages more with the bat in this series than every England player bar Malan. Go Forth And Multiply.
@DonCorleone David Lloyd was at his insightful best after the drubbing. “I think England have done as well as they could” He gets well paid for that...
They should bring in Gary Ballance to open in the next Test, even though he makes Chris Tavare look like Brian Lara.
Another massive let down today. To hear that prize clown Anderson blithely blame the pitch after is a betrayal of the 10,000 plus England fans in the MCG.
Alistair Cook Pleased for him - one of life’s gentlemen - and for the Barmy Army, who finally get something to cheer.
