The Aussies got 40 or so this morning. That is not great really, but at least we have a 50 run lead. One of the openers need a century please.

<laugh> This has more contenders....I'd go for Matt Prior as I can't think of anything positive he has done

Swann possibly? 7 wickets at 80.

Not a great morning's work from the bowlers but we do at least have a lead. Cook has started quite nicely while Carbberry seems becalmed, currently 1 not out off 37 balls.

Naturally as soon as I post that Carberry thumps the next ball he faces for 4.

Cook playing quite beautifully so far. 40 off 45 so far, and he has passed 8000 test match runs. Only the 6th Englishman to do so, and the youngest ever.

86-3. Carberry goes for 12 off 81 and two balls later Root runs himself out. <doh>

Dreadful from Broad. The tail should be blocking and leaving only with Pietersen set.

Pietersen out. ****.........no need for it either should have taken a single. I guess he just decided he had to target Lyon and didn't care how many balls were left in the over.

He had to start going for it , he was running out of partners . I have slated him in the past , but this innings he has been brilliant .

I agree but he could have taken a single then gone for it with 6 balls to bat in the next over. Might have got a bad ball with more fielders up. Obviously the problem would be the bowler would be Johnson. I'm not blaming him at all, he's been great in this game. He didn't necessary have to tee off at that moment was all I was getting at. Not very confident of England defending this
