While on the subject of destruction, it's something that seems to have slipped down the interest scale when it comes to people's fears. Where it was once a great fear, now it's been relegated to something akin to a non event. But according to a mob called the Arms Control Association, as of 2018, there were still roughly 15,000 nuclear warheads in existence. Russia 6,850. USA 6,550. France 300. China 280. UK 250. Pakistan 145. India 135. Israel 80. North Korea 15.
The number does seem small doesn't it? The Federation of American Scientists put the number at 290, but China is expected to double that in the next decade.
Even cows respond to this lady's magical voice, beautiful (looks abit like the wee lass on the Dragon from the back)
There's some truly precious film floating around the place. One of these is of the legendary blues man Big Bill Broonzy, the man who was taught the blues by an ex slave named See See Rider. The clip was filmed by Pete Seegar the day before Broonzy underwent surgery for throat cancer, an illness that would take his life within the year. His power is amazing.
Sam the Sham and The Pharaohs. I think I'd like to be a big bad wolf. I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on Until I'm sure that you've been shown That I can be trusted walking with you alone.
Every time I visit Paris or one of my German haunts I choose a CD by an artist of who I have previously been ignorant. The choice is made simply on the packaging, the song titles and the feel the artist gives me; I suppose it is the 'auld hippie' in my youth. Anyway, the choice from FNAC at Gare de l'Est in Paris a few weeks ago was Leyla McCalla. I hope you enjoy this as much as me. <iframe width="1019" height="573" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/o6kHnUXHOo0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Just finished reading a book called The Long Walk. The story of how in 1941 polish soldier Slavomir Rawisc and 6 fellow prisoners escaped from their Siberian labour camp by walking 4000 miles over the course of about a year, out of Siberia, through the Gobi desert, Mongolia, Tibet and over the Himalayas to India. A truly amazing feat of endurance and resilience. Having finished the book I consulted google to find out more about Mr Rawisc and there is some scepticism about the validity of the story but I'm prepared to accept it as genuine. Worth a read.
There was a movie about this ......'The Way Back'. Pretty good cast including Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan, Ed Harris and Jim Sturgess. Don't know if the fillum is any good.
