Think this great painting has been put up before by Cyclonic, but worth a repeat:

"Why the 'Great Wave' has mystified art lovers for generations."

    Annotation 2019-03-19 011210.jpggreatwave.jpg

A massive wave threatens to engulf three fishing boats, its foam extending like claws, menacing the rowers below. It's an epic scene of human struggle and natural terror that dwarfs the sacred Mount Fuji just behind it.

This is "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and one of the world's most iconic pieces of Asian art.

If this climactic moment seems ubiquitous -- think T-shirts, coffee mugs, laptop decals -- that's because it was designed to be.

Swanny, a pal of mine, his brighter is a tattoo artist and I know that this type of image of the falling/crashing waves is very popular, some even hunt down specific tattoo artists who can replicate this image on to body art. I've seen this one several times before and always liked the image, I have a bit of a fascination with running water, could sit by a stream or river for hours just watching the flow of the water. I know the top paintings of this particular style can fetch up to a nice price if you have one, though maybe not if you want to buy one...!!

There was a brilliant Russian painter by the name of Ivan Aivazovsky who passed away in 1900, who did wonderful seascapes. I think I may have already posted some of his work, but it's worth doing again.

Wow, what paintings, Cyc, terrific work. I used to love watching waterfalls too. Have seen Niagara and been in that boat too that gets awful close, too close! <laugh> There are, surprisingly, quite a few great falls in Jamaica, one of which I was also lucky enough to see in the early '80's. I think it was the Reggae Falls in St. Thomas, cannot be sure though:

Nowadays, sadly, I am restricted to watching the loo waterfall, and being truly thankful that it works! :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Looks interesting; I love Richard E. Grant and Jude Law is generally underrated. Had a wee gander at IMDB so at £2.20 from Amazon I might add the DVD to my next order from or through the tax dodgers.

Ste, did you notice that the fans near and behind him took not a blind bit of notice. It's as though they thought "we've got loads of those middle-aged nut cases"? <laugh>

Right at the end I thought he was about to take his pants off?

For those interested in Greek mythology, the link below gives an insight into the famous battle between the Centaurs and their human relatives, the Lapiths. According to which legend you want to follow, both sides were fathered by the first murderer, Ixion. The battle begins at the festival to celebrate the wedding of Ixion' son Pirithous to the lovely Hippodamia. One of the chief guests was the mighty Theseus who according to one legend, was the son of Poseidon. During the party, the Centaur Eurytus , now drunk and jealous, grabbed the bride and tried to have his way. At the end of the battle, the hero Caeneus, was a former woman who at her own request, was turned into a man by Poseidon.

The Roman poet Ovid penned the following piece. This is lifted from book 12.

Absolutely brilliant, Cyc, he really was in a class of his own as a folk singer was Leonard Cohen. In fact, If I'm not careful I will put-up my personal favourite "Closing Time" yet again, in fact, I think I will...…….. <whistle> <laugh>

Not an ounce of bullshit here. Just good old fashioned talent.

'Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld, so I can sigh eternally' sang my man Cobain, let's have a listen, one of my fav tracks off In Utero, he wrote the lyrics in the studio and was suffering with flue hence the reference to warm milk and antacids, such a great voice.

This one is from a Wicklow band that I put up before that some of you liked. They are a post-rock band and have a decent follow in Europe and but not that well known in UK. This was the tune that got me into them, the double bass at the end gets me every time. They have a whole collection of great songs, this one is slightly heavier than others.
