Unusually, a racing related video. I love this Racing UK trailer. Everything just works - pictures, music, message. Simple yet brilliant
You know, it really could be! "The Best Interview In The History Of Television [Robin Williams]" R.I.P. Robin, you are sadly missed by so many.
Just finished watching Dunkirk ......................... fine film. A small corner of Berlin is proud to be British this evening
Ever heard of Festivus? I hadn't until a few minutes ago. But it seem people all over the planet are getting into it in lieu of Christmas. It's satirical piss take on what the season means in relation to the crass, commercial rip off built around the birth of the man. And it's devotees are mostly atheists. In place of a Christmas tree, Festivus celebrates the day in the presence of an aluminum pole. (Because the tinsel is distracting.) And then there's the airing of grievances, a period when truths are aired. There's something called the Feats of Strength. The whole idea of Festivus was born in a 1997 episode of Seinfeld. The ideas some folk are attracted to.
Cole Porter's "Begin The Beguine", performed by David Dunlap on the rather strange-looking Wersi Scala:
In Boardwalk Empire, Bobby Cannavale does a fine job as psychopath Giuseppe Colombano "Gyp" Rosetti, a man who thinks God keeps short changing him. He's some sort of bastard. In some scenes I find it hard watch the things he does, really brutal stuff.
2018 - The New Year's Concert - Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Ah, 2-1/2 hours of absolute bliss! Listen to this every year. No stupid politics, and no trying to figure out which member will be 'in form' on the Daily Thread, although Stick is often a good bet in this respect. Concert usually ends with the evergreen "Radetzky March". This is the 2013 performance, the Conductor: Franz Welser-Möst: ......and a "Happy New Year" to all, including Bees fans!
Loved this song right from the beginning, but have to admit that when Roebuck "Pops" Staples and his girls were added to the mix, it became something else. Mavis' voice is breath taking. The look on the girl's faces as their father did his bit said it all. And Rick Danko absolutely nailed it.
This masterpiece was written in 1962. What a potent song it turned out to be. The lines just keep streaming a constant warning, and the way it builds towards the end is amazing. It just goes to show that music doesn't have to be all about expensive studios. I don't know when this was filmed, but by the looks of him here, it couldn't have been too long after he wrote it.
A magical song (one of my Dylan favourites) with many fine covers; Bryan Ferry, Leon Russell and, of course, the incomparable Wolfgang Niedecken's (BAP) rocking version on his Bob Dylan tribute (?) album!
I was going to post this on the "other sport" thread, but it is indeed art. In the dictionary, under "sublime" they could just put "See Cantona goal against Sunderland" Enjoy
Oddy, there have only been short periods in my life when I've taken in interest in the round ball game, but at one of those times, Cantona was at his peak. I loved the way he took control of a game. His eye for where his team mates were was amazing. Thanks for the memories mate, much appreciated.
