Love Jimmy Barnes; great catalogue of work including the soul and rhythm'n'blues covers CD's.

My favourite 'Antipodeans' remain Midnight Oil and The Mutton Birds.

Just watched a fine film "Conviction" (2010) which includes a tremendous acting performance from Hilary Swank, and by Sam Rockwell too.

"A working mother, Betty Anne Waters, puts herself through law school in an effort to represent her brother, who has been wrongfully convicted of murder and has exhausted his chances to appeal his conviction through public defenders."

Here's a piece of music from the movie, "Heaven and Hell" sung by the Wild Colonials, which comes right at the end. Not a bad song at all. Put the old headphones on for better quality listening!

Shoot; telly on the blink so just started watching 'Shameless' from the beginning via the laptop. Forgot what a scream this series was!

Hopefully telly will be replaced under John Lewis's five year guarantee.

Joanna Lumley trying to do the impossible, i.e. interviewing Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe in 1989. She was standing-in for Terry Wogan who was on vacation. <laugh>

It's amazing how ignorant a man can be. I'm in my mid sixties and until a year or two back, I'd never heard of Wilbert Harrison. But that's no biggie I suppose, as I think there'd be a **** load of oldies who've never heard the name either. I first came across Wilbert when I stumbled upon his version of Stagger Lee, I then found Kansas City, a song that's now been recorded hundreds of times by various artists. When I looked into the song, I was amazed to learn that Harrison's Kansas City, recorded in 1959 sold over a million copies. He made the Leiber and Stoller song what it is today. And it's this version that in 2005, earned the singer and the song a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. It's also listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's top 500 songs. It reached No1 for a couple of weeks on Billboard.

The rare bit of film below is missing the last 24 seconds. A real pity. This man was as smooth as.

IJN Fuso. Lost in the Surigao Straight battle on 25 October 1944. Of a crew numbering 1630, only 10 survived the battle. None of the 10 would outlive the war. Some will find Fuso an assault on the eye, but I think her a thing of beauty. The 140 foot pagoda mast is quite striking.

They had a way of getting to the core of things in 1955. Julius Cheeks and the Sensational Nightingales singing Somewhere To Lay My Head. I like the way the group starts before Cheeks appears and launches into the song. Brilliant.

A lovely short film which won the 2004 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Geoffrey Rush does a wonderful job with a brilliant script.

An exhibition of the paintings of Gerhard Richter is now on in Australia. The sheer range of his work is quite phenomenal. The video seems to concentrate on his abstracts, which are not everyone's cup of tea, and might give the wrong impression. However, he has painted some outstanding landscapes, etc., as well. Here's a video of Richter at an exhibition, and of him at work in his studio:
