Geez Oddy, it's a really ticklish situation. I can see where the indigenous folk are coming from I guess, but don't know how far this stand will spread. I think it's a bit far fetched for some to call the landing of the first fleet "like celebrating the Nazi Holocaust." Sure we treated them like **** and didn't even allow the the vote until the 60s, but that kind of thinking is not called for. We have to find a way of being inclusive on the issue. Personally, I'd be happy to give the date the arse, and go with January 1. We became a federation on Jan 1, 1901.
Here's a strange short film. We use people for our own ends, but are also used by others. Some surprising ideas depicted by the the way folks are used in the movie.
A beautiful scene from one of the finest movies ever made - Andy Dufrense gets beers for his mates in The Shawshank Redemption
'Shawshank' came out at the same time as another prison drama 'Murder In The First' which I consider to be a better fillum.
If this doesn't belong on an art's thread, then I give up. Kermit Weeks' replica of a Curtiss Pusher. (Pushing engines) These were the first built Glen Curtiss Model Ds which were introduced in 1911, out of New York I believe. They came with a 40hp Curtiss inline 4 cylinder engine. Kermit Weeks though has a vintage Curtiss V8 cylinder power unit. Add some Strauss and you get magic.
Biggles, ahhh yes, I loved the Biggles books. I think he started his career as an Acting Flight Commander in 1916. With just 15 hours of flight time, James Bigglesworth was assigned to 169 Squadron where he and his New Zealand spotter Mark Way did their bit in a Royal Aircraft Factory F.E. 2 pusher. No seat belts or parachutes in those days.
Been with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers since their first album in 1976, Proved to be a lifeline from my first love The Byrds to the present and beyond .............. "Baby even the losers get lucky sometimes, even the losers keep a little bit of pride; they get lucky sometimes" Hope my new neighbours are fans!
Jimmy Barnes is one of the most polarising singers in Australia. Some can't stand a bar of him, while others think him brilliant.
