Yeah I agree also. After a promising Summer where it looked like the club is really trying to compete, selling RVP to one of our rivals would be counter productive. Make no mistake United would be a force again should they sign the Durchman.
I suspect Wenger is aware of it too... I'm not sold on this RVP move to Man U tbh. I think it is media hype, nothing more. I could be wrong but I think he will stay... whether that is a good thing is anyone's guess.
It's my feeling that RVP will still be an Arsenal player this season too, but I think it will come down to how he really feels about the situation now. He can't have missed the fact that we've significantly strengthened the squad, so the stance about us lacking ambition doesn't really hold any water. So, if as he said it's not motivated by money, then there's really no valid reason for him to justify wanting to leave.
TBf there is no longer any reason for him to complain about lack of ambition. We have signed good players, and strenghthened the squad a bit. If he does want to move to Man U, it will be for the money. There is the small matter about him wanting to be paid more than Wayne Rooney. How will Man U sort out the wage issue if this is true? Will Rooney be happy is VP is paid more, despite being older, a newcomer and more injury prone?
But that isn't the real reason. Unless we spend ridiculous amounts of money (a la city) we are still outsiders for EPL and Champions League but as always have a shot at FA and LC (trophies I don't think RVP gives a crap about). At Juve, Man Utd and City he does have a more realistic chance of winning the bigger trophies. I think he said ambition in the statment but what he really meant was trophies. We have shown ambition and I am quite happy with our summer acquisitions but City and UTD are still the teams to beat (and maybe Chelsea depending on how the new players gel). I expect us to compete for the EPL and be dark horses for the CL. If it was really only the money why is he not angling a move to Russia or China where he could probably get 300-400k a week. Yes he will get more money then he would at arsenal and yes I am sure Money is a factor - but lets be honest about why he wants to leave. That being said I would prefer we didn't sell him to any EPL team, Juve can have him. In january he can start talks with any of the Foreign clubs (improves chance of him going outside of EPL (english clubs have to wait a month before)) and that means he is more likely to go overseas. It also gives Podolski, Giroud and Cazorla time to settle rather than expect them to fire right of the bat plus there is a small chance if we are up there or on top of the table come Jan he might sign on a new contract (~2%)
Either we are a competitive club that's trying to beat our rivals to the title or we are NOT. Selling the best striker in the EPL to United would undo much of the good work we've been doing this transfer window IMO. (and send out a bad message) United will have Vidic back next term plus Kagawa if they added RVP I think they will win the league. we need to STOP that from happening.
Exactly. I wonder what excuse he'll use if he leaves now, considering Arsenal have some what 'adhered' to his grievances. a). 'I didn't feel loved at the club'. b). 'I wanted a new challenge... in the same league but with a different team.' c). 'The weather is slightly better up north'. Answers on a post card.
I like Van de Wiel if we're after a fullback. He can play either side too.(although predominantly RB) Also Cissoko is a decent option at leftback.

I hate to agree with that lump of human excrement that calls itself 'The Zlatan' but Gibbs is indeed crap. If not crap, then certainly not of a standard good enough for AFC.
Yep, not AFC standard, and pretty safe to call him crap defensively. Him and Santos are so far off the standard of Sagna defensively it's not even funny.
Yes, I'd rather lose him for free after getting another season out of him. You may disagree but I believe if we keep him, along with our new signings, we're good enough to compete with United. Since 2004 our priority has been to balance the books and football has come second, it would be refreshing if, just once, it was the other way round.
I can't believe you fell for the wum. The fact that Utd need to sign our players to improve their team means that we are indeed a rival to them.
You carry on thinking that. Your side aren't doing much in the way of strengthening, CITY and CHELSEA and indeed ARSENAL are strengthening. We'll see.
