Really? Not a bad player but I saw nothing to suggest he had it in him to make it with us. With Frimpong and Coquelin you can see they're far from the finished article but they show flashes of real ability. Ozzy looked like a reliable, solid player to me, nothing special. I'm basing that of the 2/3 Carling Cup games I saw him in so maybe I'm just being harsh. However, as things stand with our new players, I'm worrying about the development of Frim/Coq, let alone anyone else. PS Cazorla - yay. PPS Anyone seen the Van de Wiel rumour? Think we need a right back but not sure he's the answer.
Song is one player that needs to show some gratitude to Arsenal. He was a complete nobody before Wenger signed him. The fans have stuck up for him, when the doom mongers were scapegoating him. I would be mightily pissed off if he left now.
Maybe he was one of those players who would have been too much of a luxury to keep. Not convinced by Van de Wiel either.
Song is a genuine, down-to-earth and all round nice guy. I've read some interviews with him and he seems like exactly the kind of player you'd want at the club - humble, hard working, and a real family man. I hope he stays. Hopefully the signings have signalled Arsenal's intent.
I read that Guardian article and, until I hear it from Song himself (ie a direct quote - he's not my mate or anything), won't believe he's engineering a move. I think with our new signings we may see the Song of old, sitting in front of the defence.
I think you're right, he doesn't strike me as a wantaway player. Maybe this is just guff, but I'd expect more from the Guardian
On that Guardian link, it says Song's contract runs until 2015, I thought he only had two years left on his contract?
No one seems to be too sure-I've seen an article on Arsenal.com that said (as I recall) that he was in the same position as Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott, but other information seems to have trickled out that says he's contracted until 2014 or 2015. Certainly the current consensus seems to be that he has three years left to run, which would mean that Arsenal are very much in control. I don't know where these rumours about him wanting to leave have come from. If it's Talksport then I'd take them with a considerable pinch of salt.
I was under the impression that he had signed a long term contract last season keeping him at the club until 2014 or 2015
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-we-re-ready-to-discuss-new-deals http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ong-set-new-deal-Arsenal-close-Yann-MVila.htm Who the flip knows? Conflicting reports everywhere. If he does indeed have a contract for more than two years, then I can't imagine that we'll sell unless offered a bumper deal?
I'd believe the club before the Mail but i've never seen it mentioned anywhere else that Song's contract expires in 2013
That's the thing-I can't remember, nor find, any mention on the club website of Song signing a new contract yet there seems to be a belief amongst the media (the Mail was just the first example I could find) that he's still got time to go. But I don't know what they're basing that on, 'cause I can't find any hard evidence. Which is, admittedly, not usually a hindrance for tabloid hacks.
The media are always talking about RVP and Walcott only having a year but i've definately never heard the same for Song
