Not bothered about Clint Dempsey. I think he's having the best season of his career and its all downhill from now on.(in otherwords he's reached his peak)

Personally i was thinking Afellay would be an awesome buy. Extremeley talented attacking midfielder. Not getting enough games at Barcelona (therefore wont be too expensive)and is known to be good friends with our own Robin Van Persie.

    IN:

    Ibrahim Afellay
    Vertonghen (or Hummels)
    Podolski

    OUT:
    Bendtner
    Chamakh
    Denilson
    Squillaci
    Carlos Vela

    -------------------Sczezney--------------------
    Sagna-----Vertonghen---Vermaelen----Gibbs
    -------------Song--------Wilshere-------------
    ------------------Afellay-----------------------
    Walcott--------VanPersie-----------Podolski

Strong Bench: Rosicky, Arteta, Gervinho, Diaby, Mertesacker, Chamberlain, Santos.

    Is Afellay not a winger?

No, he can play wide because he is quick but he made a name for himself as a playmaker/attacking mid. That's his 'natural position'.

Also he gets more chances wide at barcelona because they have Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas who can play down the middle.

He's 25 so a pretty good age. Quality player, needs to move in order to get games though. There's just too much competition at Barca. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAm6hchK7fw&feature=related

I think Afellay had a major injury setback, so he'd be a bit of a gamble on that front, but when fit, he's a real quality player so wouldn't be a bad signing if we got him at a good price.

I heard talkSHITE are linking us to a chap called Hernanes, from Lazio. I don't know who he is, is he any good? I'd still rather someone like Kagawa, or possibly Gourcuff (Wenger could sort him out).

adem ljajic linked to us again by the mirror and the metro. In case anyone has forgotten him he was on the verge of joining manu (also unveiled to the press) before they pulled out of the deal last minute and is now at fiorentina. Obviously no ones buying into the story just yet but it'll be hilarious if he comes here and succeeds!

I think we will get Vertonghen tbh.
    Two words:
    Thomas Vermaelen.

    Balance, it's all about balance.

Having one shorter more mobile centreback is a good thing. having two?..stupidity.

Who would you suggest then? Vertonghen also does not only play CB.

    Edit: Saw your suggestions above.

Yeah I think Vertonghen would be a great signing.
He's 6'3 strong and technically skilled enough to fit in our system.

(although Matt Hummels would be my first choice.)

If we're linked to a CB, then Mats Hummels is by far the best (and most expensive) bet. The Bundesliga is similar to the PL, he's a german international, and a quality defender, who's an aerial threat from set pieces. Vertonghen is too similar to TV for me, why have 2 of the same player?

We already have two of the same player in Vermaelen and Koscielney.

Vertonghen would give us more height and more aerial ability while still being technically skilled enough to play from the back'.

Hummels would also be my first choice but I do rate Vertonghen highly.
