We have to be realistic and stay positive. Even though we are the only top 6 club with unproven attacking line we still have enough quality to finish forth. This is difficult but doable. I think we still keep our noses just ahead of Spurs and Liverpool, and we are stronger than Everton and Newcastle. Anything above fourth will be a huge bonus and a tremendous success.
If Giroud and Podolski start banging in goals, which is quite possible with Cazorla and Wilshere feeding them, then it won't look bad at all. People are just panicking atm.
Many of the things Wenger -or for that matter anyone- says to the press are regularly twisted to suit their (newspaper editors) views. I dont believe that Wenger 'lies' to the fans, but is trying to be be political in what he may or may not be quoted on - a game at which he will always be a loser. I still trust him, but I do accept that this is a big season for him. I await developments with interest.......
No he should have said after RVP was sold "As I said before, we have not brought Podolski and Giroud to replace RVP. " Then he should do everything he could to get rid of Chamakh and Park and bring another striker who he can actually trust.
I've said even after all the Chelsea transfers that them and Man Utd are overrated this season. I only see Man. City as clearly better than us, and we will be closer to Man United this year. People complaining about our midfield options should look at Man U...
Except he did buy them in case that happens. That he wasn't able to be upfront about it while RvP was still there should be common sense.
The problem for you is lack of cover. When Wilshere is back, you'll have a very good first 11, but 3 or 4 injuries (like now) and you seem a bit short of cover to me. Keep everyone fit and you are in the fight for 4th, a bad run of injuries and I can't see you competing.
I do not think he lies either, he is trying to defend the club's policy, but it is getting more and more difficult.
There's no way Wenger could have come out and said that Pod and Giro were replacements for RVP when he was still at the club. Firstly because it would have completely undermined RVP and at that time, Wenger was probably still hopeful he'd sign a contract. What I think Wenger did do, was to take a pragmatic decision not knowing the eventual outcome and bought two strikers anyway. The fact that RVP did leave means it turned out to be a shrewd decision. Wenger said he was going to get his business done early, which he did. Last season people were slating him for last minute buying, this season people are slating him for not buying anyone at the last minute . . .
What he did was what the fans asked for the most after the departures of Cesc and Nasri... be ready for them.
All I am saying is - if he said for whatever reason - that they were not brought as a replacement, just please, at least keep to your original line and do not say the opposite a month later. Nobody forced him to say "We have replaced RVP with Pod and Giroud". Just stick to your proved and tested "We may bring new players but only if we find a super duper quality".
The team in that photo won precisely nothing. Im glad we have started to change our policy of hanging on to players who might one day "come good ". change was needed , changes have been made.
The only true measure is to see how the season pans out. Last year everyone was slating Arsenal, the predictable 'you'll drop out of the top four' which we've been hearing since Henry left. Some Gooners were even saying that the North London Power shift was complete, Wenger had lost the plot. Our players were crap etc etc, there was so much doom mongering it was unreal. And we finished third
Piskie, Arsenal only scraped 3rd because Spurs imploded & Chelsea had a bad spate of infighting. Neither of those things should happen again, yet Arsenal haven't improved from last year. The only hope now is Steve Bould. If he revolutionises the defense, there's a chance of Top4. Otherwise, I'm very afraid.
Having the worst start of a season in decades should also not happen like last year. If we had started last year with a settled team we'd have +10 points at the very least.
Wenger said once that changing three players is a big gamble. Now he did not just changed three players, we brought three new guys in key positions, and they are now the key to our success of failure. I had a feeling that Arsenal looked disjointed in their first two games, Arsene admits that "something missing". In my view this is because with our attacking game Pod, Giroud and Cazorla are not just a new addition. It is not that they need to adapt to Arsenal game. Other players will need to adapt to their game. Because there are no real goalscorers outside these three,(apart from maybe Walcott). And this is a huge risk. I think this transfer window has brought the biggest change in Arsenal game in the last 6-7 years. Arsenal now is a big unknown.. So all those predictions are pointless. We need at least 10 games to know where we are.
You're really going to have to let us in on the secret of how you get from being pissed up in a strip club to being sober in less than three hours
