That story is from the Times but was reported on the BBC gossip page. Telegraph saying we are still after M'Vila.

He would be an excellent addition to the squad though, especially if we buy him to replace Chamakh and Park. He got 24 goals last season and is only 25 years old. Also, with him we could be more flexible and go with two up front if needed. If the reported fee is correct with Chamakh going the other way, then this could be a really good deal.
But he wouldn't join as a backup though, if we're linked to him, it means RvP is sodding off to Citeh.
He might just jump at the chance to join Arsenal for all we know. Starter or not. Also, even if RVP does leave then getting this guy PLUS someone else would be smart.
