Depends who the journo is. Jamie Sanderson that YoungGunsBlog dude is reliable. Not sure who it is in this case. If it's anything like the fees being bandied about, you lot are paying an extortionate price for a player who will leave at the end of the season. As an aside: German newspapers reporting that player unhappy Arsenal pulled out and Lfc only option. #Justsahin.
the same German press that reported that he had completed a medical yesterday for you guys...? Agree it's a lot, but a few million and high wages (for a player who I think will be worth them) is a small price to pay for a real stab at CL, we would have a midfield and attack of ---------Lucas------ ----Sahin-----Allen-- Suarez----Gerrard--Borini Which I think would be very competitive in the league if BR get's them to gel
That's almost as good as what we're hoping for ----------M'Villa-------- ----Arteta-----Cazorla-- Theo----Giroud--Porolski Though Arsenal will have Gervinho, Oxo, Wilshere, Diaby & Rosicky as other options, so maybe just shade it
Good side Although clear that missing link is CDM atm!! Where do you see Wilshere fitting in when he's back?
The obvious problem being of course, that if he becomes an integral part of BR system and then leaves... its back to Adam and Spearing...
I know, but tbh I can see Real taking £20m for him, they're packed out in midfield as is. Perhaps if they take him back Alsonso can come the other way
Personally I think you guys have had a good summer, better than last year imo. We had a bad summer when Alonso was shipped out and we dropped out of the top 4 (after finishing 2nd on 86pts), you guys survived and I'm sure you'll get top 4 again. It's a shame City's money bags are taking up a top 4 position, also Chelsea... but at least they were around the top 4 when RA took over.
The thing that confuses me is that your owners seem to be on a cost cutting regime, especially with wages, you have shipped out a lot of the big earners. Therefore if you were going to make the deal permanent, would they really pay the guy 100k a week? Bear in mind the guy is unlikely to take any less than that, even then it would be 15 k a week cut, plus with the UK tax system it would work out an even bigger cut in net earnings.
Well isn't that a beauty of a loan? That after a year we will know exactly how much he is worth without him being stuck to a long contract, like Joe Cole
Its also the downside of a loan, if he does a great job, and you can't agree on wages, it will be like losing an integral part of the team. And you won't get a transfer fee to replace him.
Oh and anyone what to guess the 'two positions'? I am going for a DM and also one more player for cover in the defence.
Until it's officially happened, on the Arsenal website, all of these reports are meaningless, as we have seen from the Sahin Saga.
Im afraid I can't comment on how good the guy is, as I have never seen him play, as I said in another thread, I find it strange that Madrid are happy to let him go if he is such an incredible footballer, my guess is the guy is very good but slightly overrated by everyone. Similar to VDV at spurs, a very good player but not quite good enough for Madrid. That doesn't mean I dont think he will be a good buy, especially as you say, with gerrard getting on it could be a very good signing all round, I'm still sceptical about you affording his wages if a permanent deal is in the offing.
He is very, very good. World-class as a 21 year old in Germany (best player in Germany in 2011). Madrid bought him whilst injured, and with the system they play, he was either taking Alonso's position as the deep lying playmaker or the forward play-maker role, which Ozil plays. Alonso is defensively much better than Sahin and Madrid are keen to play Spanish players, so that wasn't going to happen. He wouldn't partner Alonso - Mourinho is too defensive for that, preferring Lass/Khedira. Ozil is simply fantastic and had a fantastic season - Sahin, recovering from injury, couldn't get a break. Also, you have to remember there's Kaka in the equation - a player Madrid spent £50M on. Oh and wages aren't an issue.
