It was a bad challenge because they'd been pushed around and been made to look silly. So they desperately swung.

If Pogba had hopped over the challenge, as he did, but not gone to ground, as ref I'd have given him a freekick to be honest.

Just the way he dropped and waved made it look like simulation to me. If you're going to appeal for a foul you should probably make sure you're fouled.

 

I've got no issues with Pogba getting nothing for it, there was no foul I suppose so play on. Booking is ridiculous though, if I'm not mistaken he's banned now for the cup game against West Ham.

 

Sorry tel, just watching back and that's a pretty clear dive to me i think the ref was spot on. I agree that not all falls to the ground are dives (like when a player leaps over someone and then falls over) but even though nobles swipe was dangerous, he was quite far away from the old poggers.

I don't think the manager should have gone though. All he did was kick a bottle it's not like he was abusing the 4th official or anything.

 

Did Pogba get booked for the 'dive' or did he get booked for the finger pointing and shouting at the ref? They are supposed to be cracking down on dissent this season....

As for diving, its part of the game. There are some football cultures around the world where diving is celebrated; the ability to fool the ref is seen as an art form. With the globalisation of football, such cultural norms will spread and merge with the existing indigenous football culture. In short, if you want to see the best players from around the world in your domestic league, you have to accept all that they bring whether it is to your tastes or not.

 

The ref goes for his card straight away, before the dissent. I'd already considered this.
