There was an infamous robbery at the Barclays in Richmond in the mid-70s where the female cashier got shot and killed. Thankfully not returned to those violent days, where that generation didn't care about murdering innocent women for money.
We remember things like that because they were so rare.
Someone got stabbed, raped, shot, killed, or things like armed robberies, and it was massive news.
Nowadays it's an everyday event.

Add onto this the historical ***** cases from children's homes, orphanages, borstals, church organisations etc. where children were ignored or not believed..
