Hull Cricket Club bought the land that became the Circle from the Railway Company in 1875. It doesn't mention what happened to the ownership of the land before ending up with Hull City Council. Fascinating history but I'm still no closer to finding out who bought the freehold and when. Thanks again for your efforts. Here's the link: http://catalogue.hullhistorycentre.org.uk/files/c-dshc.pdf
I settle just for some recognition that Hull has a professional football club and that there is a lot more to the Hull sporting scene then this boring 'divided city' bollocks which keeps getting dragged out at every opportunity.
