Think you're on slightly dodgy ground with that one. First of all it varies depending on what subject you're looking at but regardless of that Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL, Kings and Imperial routinely appear in the top 20 with a half dozen or so US universities then a mixture of Australian and Far Eastern ones.

I'd find a different line of debate if I were you...

Yeah, alright, how many of your four kids attend/graduated MIT or CalTech then?

Also, American education is far worse in Britain's in general.

You asked if he'd ever looked at the World University Rankings and the current top ten is as follows:

1 University of Oxford United Kingdom
2 California Institute of Technology United States
    3 Stanford University United States
4 University of Cambridge United Kingdom
5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology United States
    6 Harvard University United States
    7 Princeton University United States
8 Imperial College London United Kingdom
9 ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich Switzerland
=10 University of California, Berkeley United States
=10 University of Chicago United States

    Glad to have helped.

It's about to get worse what with censorship of scientists, using the good book as an educational tool and the promotion of 'alternative facts' and 'fake news'.

My point was that lower education (primary, secondary etc.) is far worse in the US than the UK in terms of academic achievement and cognitive skills.

Which makes Bengal's point about STEM even more laughable. What's the point in having great institutions producing great scientists only for the thick as pigshit populace believing in climate change denial conspiracy theories?

All four got free rides (full scholarships) at listed US universities. All graduated with honours, and all are gainfully employed in useful fields. Thank you for asking.
My grandchildren will attend Cambridge, unless they choose Stanford.
Also, you might want to revisit your second sentence.

What a stupid comment. Most believe in climate change. It's cyclic, and natural. Some snowflakes believe Man has made a significant contribution.

A ranking of 40 countries showed Britain was ranked 6th in general education and the US was ranked 14th. Same study showed the UK ranked 6th in educational performance whilst the US was 17th.
