Out of curiosity, would this be much different if the genders were reversed? Would a boy be scarred in the same situation? Would you have taken the opportunity to sleep with a famous gymnast?

Not saying that no boy would be scarred...but it is society's attitude that does the damage. Girl has sex at 15 and boy has sex at 15...which one will be abused and called a slag. Incidentally, I would still regard it as disgraceful if a 28-yr-old woman took advantage of a young boy.

Your post didn't come across like that to be fair. I haven't blamed anyone for anything, just found your post a little odd.

I do think its unfair that most people are forming opinions without all the facts, clearly AJ could have known better and should have demonstrated greater responsibility when he had the facts, ie her age etc but none of us know a huge amount of everything that went on.

I agree with Clem in that many 15 yo know much more and are not as naive as we are always led to believe, which is by no means condoning what happened but I would be surprised if she knew nothing about what was going on and perhaps also could demonstrate a degree of responsibility too.

That said AJ has potentially broke the law and deserves anything that comes his way...

I apologise to you and Clem if my viewpoint came across as over the top and i've seen no one say that AJ should not be punished for the crimes he has pleaded guilty for.
However, I stand by my view that even to put part blame towards the girl in this case is a dangerous road and can lead to views which you hear a lot unfortunately when it comes to sexual crimes against women.

e.g. - Getting too drunk, walking home on her own, dressing in a provocative manner

Should a woman be afforded part blame if she is the victim of unwanted physical attention because she did one or more of the above?

Giving some blame to a woman going about her normal life also implies that men can't stop themselves and therefore shouldn't be blamed....that's insulting to decent men who manage not to become ravening wolves. However, that isn't to say that I think women shouldn't take care of themselves....as I've said in other contexts, being in the right doesn't help you when you've been attacked. Sensible women shouldn't drink themselves insensible even though they have every right to. .

There is fault on both sides here. However, the 15 year old isn't the one breaking the law. And, to my mind, this is a good law, which is in step with society, so the full responsibility for this falls on Johnson as the responsible adult who should know the consequences of his actions. The girl still has the mind of a child, to some extent. Even so, it was she who appeared to realise the wrong that was happening. Says a lot about the predator she was dealing with.

As a society we treat female sexuality as far more precious. I guess that's mainly historical and goes back to before the days of contraception.

I don't know many 15 year old lads who would not be over the moon at the advances of an attractive older woman(like the teacher incident). I'm sure the girl in the AJ case was equally as flattered by his approaches.

Agreed, as a male if I got drunk and walked home on my own and got mugged then I would feel stupid about putting myself in that situation and plenty of friends and family would have derided me for being so daft. We probably must accept the realities of our world

Toxic masculinity is a big problem in society. Men are always seen as the aggressor sex wise. Rape laws are also out dated and favour woman. Woman can not actual rape which is crazy.

My first time was with a 16yr old when I was just 11. I was 5ft7 at the time so looked older. But she did know my age. I was flattered but also it messed me up a little if I am honest. You can be flattered, but you can also not be ready for what happens.

......And it does happen where a underage lad has sex with an older lass. It is rare to hear about it though but is that because the lad keeps his mouth shut, or because it just doesn't happen as often?

Edit.......I should point out I don't condone underage sex for either party and my statement should not be read as a flippant remark.

All to do with what I said. Toxic masculinity is the biggest thing that needs to change. Boys that are groomed/ seduced by a older female are seen as wanting it to happen. It's all how males are viewed in the world. A guy must always want sex or he isn't really a man.

Any woman should be able to do these, without fear of being sexually harassed or assaulted.

Unfortunately there will always be predators waiting for the opportunity to take advantage of people, who put themselves in danger. It's not so long ago that I was reading, almost every week in the Echo, of women being sexually assaulted whilst walking home, through one of the town centre parks, in the early hours of the morning. Why do they take this risk?
