Agree 100% about Moore being a red card waiting to happen. I've thought the same for a while. It's not his fault at all but the way international refs see things, he'd always be in danger Also agree about Colwill but I think he has to convince Bellers of his commitment and enthusiasm for a scrap when needed. Perhaps for the moment, we have to around not having an out and out striker. I think there's goals in the squad and this will come to fruition as things bed down.
Wales are best when pressing high with bodies up the pitch but against a better team Wales will struggle with in effect only 2 in central midfield and 2 exposed centre backs. Bellamy has only so many players to choose from and when two (three if you count Ramsey) of their better players are injured it makes it more difficult for him to put out a team, fair play to eg Sheehan from the third tier putting in a decent shift. Saying all that Bellamy has shown he is willing to adapt so it’s expected he’ll change the format next week.
Yes, different horses for different courses. We will need more physicality particularly in midfield. Jordan James must start. Sheehan is okay in Ampadu's absence. As for the 3rd if he sticks to 4 3 3, Cullen is a niggler who could wind them up but I would like to see more stature and physique. Of course he could bring in Mepham and go 5 3 2 with Roberts and Williams pushing up to support midfield. Cullen could then be third and support the front 2, James and a n other. Who would be a manager? Biggest test of Bellars managerial career so far. I want a win but a draw is not the end of the world.
Thought this was a decent view of things after last night in the analysis piece... Wales 3-1 Kazakhstan: Craig Bellamy's side start 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with win - https://www.skysports.com/football/wales-vs-kazakhstan/report/525563
I saw most of the game but wasn't watching intently. Colwill came to mind when I was watching, but not that positively. He would have brought a bit of guile IF he got into the game. However, the 'harem scarem' approach to the press would have seen much of the game pass him by. I don't think the opportunity to put his foot on the ball would have arisen. One thing that was evident last night was the unselfish running off the ball. Some were made knowing they'd never get the ball, but to attract defenders and possibly create space. The best you could say about performance was 'workmanlike'. The heads could have dropped after the equaliser, but that's not what Bellamy has instilled in the squad.
Good, common sense review by Bellars. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar Patience was the key. There were a group behind me urging Neco to run at them and take 'em on from just inside the Kasak's half. The same group were shouting "Shoot" from 35 yards out regardless of having an opponent or 2 stood in front of our player. Everyone is entitled to go to the game and shout their views but, ffs, try and show a bit of knowledge about the game. The same group wanted our back 4 to loft the ball forward when our front 3 resembled 3 of Snow White's little friends. These people clearly have no knowledge of how the game is played. Possession of the ball means your opponents don't have it and can't do any damage. Of course you have to work the ball foward but do it the right way. As for Colwill, Bellars would have picked him for the squad if he thought he could do a job. Let's be honest, he has been a disappointment for us this season so why should Bellars pick him? Just saying it like it is. Ashford was more likely to get a call up
Just a final few points on last night. I don't know what Bellamy is going to do for a No.10 if Wilson is unavailable - as much as I like his skillset, Brooks isn't the answer. I don't want to be rude, but quite frankly I find the suggestion that Colwill could do the job to be unrealistic - Bellamy clearly thinks so too. Experimental opportunities during international qualifying games are very limited due to the immediacy of results affecting the small group table. The League is a different matter - you've got 46 games to experiment and get it right, not half a dozen or so to qualify. Even if he was fit, Ramsey isn't the Ramsey of 5 years ago and without Wilson on tap, the door is open for an "influencer". Dare I say it, for the back line and defensive midfield we're OK - there are some very good players amongst the options (not sure about the keeper mind). It's what goes on in front of them that's going to make the difference. An influencer and a finisher coming out of the woodwork would surely get us to the USA etc - until then it's going to be hard work.
Gone to a back 5 with Mepham .in as I suspected but with Sorba the Leek at RB. 1970's German porn star Roberts benched as are Brooks and Cullen. Main surprise is Broadhead up top. Moore on bench again.
Yes not surprised to see the Spanish waiter benched. Midfield stronger with Jordan James. Need a bigger impact from Johnson tonight. Haven't checked to see if Broadhead has been playing much for Ipswich but he’s on paper at least a rarity for Wales these days, a PL player! No reason why this team shouldn’t win.
True, but Latvia twice, being the only scalp of any note. They hardly impressed v England last night. Do the Faroe Islands and Liechtenstein count?
Yep but they've also claimed wins against the likes of Germany previously and a draw with our overrated neighbours... Decent half though from Wales. Kept the danger to a minimum and created a couple of chances ourselves. Just need to stay solid. A draw wouldn't be a bad result.
FFS thanks Joe Allen.... EDIT: get in there Brooksy you gorgeous man you.... No less than we deserved.....
Holy cr-p. In the end we got away with one in a game we should have won. I hate being critical of Bellers but he got his subs wrong tonight. Nothing terminal for him but he has to hurt and learn from this Although Moore got the assist, he's a donkey these days. And while Joe Allen has been a great player for Wales, he looks a serious liability now. Not the end of the world but lessons have to be learned. Cymru am Byth
I was just about to have a right go at Bellamy for his absolutely crass decision to bring on a bloke who should never have been anywhere near this squad and also taking off James on the hour instead of the hopeless B Johnson. He still deserves criticism but thankfully the ref correctly allowed the extra time and a scrappy equaliser gets him and that OAP out of jail. Overall though Wales should have won it over the 90.
