May be of interest. http://intotheterraces.co.uk/2018/10/23/the-82ers-vs-ragbag-rovers-the-bristol-derby/ I found the part on fan culture apt. Dressing up and expensively so for the match was something me and my peers took part in keenly as it was a City thing to do. Being scruffy and dirty was a Gas thing.
There were obvious divisions. As a 70s 80s punk I was a real minority in the EE. Rovers had more punks in their support. The NF politics thing was really odd as well as stupid Rovers was more a far multi racial area. Head it many a time that due to Citys hooligans being mainly white but having active black hooligans in the gangs racists were not tolerated amongst them or at Ashton Gate. Good read but don't think Rovers had gates that high mind!!
I do always find it odd when you look back at old photos of Ashton Gate and you see people in their big coats and hats, very well dressed. If I went down in a suit these days I'd probably get smacked
