I'm sorry but some peoples comments about Hendo are ridiculous. The guy has worked hard to be where he is, **** if he doesn't have the ability of some of the greatest players, he works hard and would actually lead the team. Lallana beung our captain is laughable.
I believe it should be Henderson and it is interesting that he answers quite a few media questions - almost in preparation for captaincy, and can be quite vocal on the pitch. Some have mentioned Lucas but I don't feel he is loud enough on the pitch, or lead with supreme example like Gerrard did. Plus he is constantly halfway out the door! Rodgers may pick Allen for all we know though. I'd like it to be an Englishman.
Anybody feel Henderson should be Captain right now ? Gerrard is going in May and everybody knows it so some may not take his instructions so seriously anymore. I'd throw Henderson in as Captain for the rest of the season almost like an audition, see how he copes and if he has the respect of the others. Paul O'Connell Ireland Captain and former Munster Captain. Note the word former. Munster's Captain is now Peter O'Mahony a man 10/11 years Paulies junior. The players respect the decision and dont look to Paulie for guidance anymore they look their Captain. Paulie also knows his place. The only problem with my suggestion above is would Stevie accept hes not Captain and would the players still look to him undermining Henderson. I'd hope theyd be professional enough not to but these are overpaid footballers.
Can't see why Gerrard would not see it as his job to help Henderson along in his captain's role in his time left.
If not Henderson then Skrtel imo is the only other real option. I'm not a fan of forwards being captain because everything is behind them.
ok gerrard is captain for the first half in home games and second half in aways. Henderson the opposite
the MLS starts in march so why not "release" Gerrard to go and play then and not have the next six months as a long farewell? Henderson for captain!
If Gerrard's on the bench then Henderson will be captain anyway and I'd hope even if Gerrard is playing, if Henderson is a natural captain then instinct should take over and he should start commanding etc.
Jordan Henderson will flourish as Liverpool FC captain after Steven Gerrard says Brendan Rodgers Brendan Rodgers believes Jordan Henderson will flourish as Liverpool captain whenSteven Gerrard leaves Anfield this summer. Gerrard is expected to announce this week that he will sign a 18-month contract with LA Galaxy to cover the 2015 and 2016 Major League Soccer seasons. The Reds boss has confirmed that Henderson is set to be handed the armband following the iconic midfielder's exit after being earmarked as Gerrard's long-term successor earlier in the campaign. Rodgers appointed the 24-year-old as his vice-captain in September following the sale of Daniel Agger to Brondby. Asked if Henderson had all the attributes required to lead the club, Rodgers said: “Yes. It was one of the reasons I made him vice-captain. “He has got no greater captain to learn from. That was the idea of putting him in that role and seeing Jordan being here for a number of years. “I think he saw Steven as a great example anyway before he was vice-captain, but certainly in that vice-captain’s role it would give him pole position in terms of learning from a great in how he behaves, how he works, on and off the field, so when that day came that Steven would move on, you have someone there who is a different sort of player of course, but someone who can then offer that wisdom and knowledge throughout his years here. “That is something I know he is very keen on and he has been learning from Steven. During Rodgers' reign the club have lost the services of strong characters such as Pepe Reina, Jamie Carragher, Luis Suarez, Agger and now their captain of 12 years is moving on. The manager says the time has come for others to start taking greater responsibility. “It has to come from within,” he said. “I felt here in my time that even when Steven was on the bench, at times the team were looking for that player, looking for Steven to come off the bench and come into the game. “This is an opportunity now for the players within to really go and step forward as this is it, come the end of the season he won’t be here. “The club, if we are not signing that type of player and profile, then it has to come from within and that is the reality of where we are at. “Listen, we have got players here that are very keen and hungry to progress as football players. “I see the likes of even young Raheem Sterling and his leadership qualities coming through. This is a kid that will go on and develop. He has won an award for being the top young European player and over the coming years you will see him go on and become that world-class talent by consistently performing. “We have got enough leaders in that changing room that will now step up and grow hopefully and become that type of leader and character that makes up successful teams.” Liverpool flew to London on Sunday ahead of Monday night's FA Cup third round tie with AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow. Rodgers is desperate to ensure Gerrard's glittering Reds career ends in style with some silverware. The FA Cup final at Wembley on May 30 is also Gerrard's 35 birthday and holding the trophy aloft would be a fitting way for him to go out. “Our aim was always to win a trophy this year and even more so now with that added incentive,” Rodgers added. “To have a captain who has been a monumental figure for this club leaving there would be no greater tribute than to reach a final, particularly an FA Cup final, and to see him lift a trophy - that's what dreams are all about. “It would be a great way for him to end his career and certainly we don't want Stoke City away (May 24) to be our last game of the season.”
May 30th, Gerrard's birthday, FA Cup final... Last game for Liverpool? Holding a trophy..? It's written in the stars Now watch us lose to AFC Wimbledon and ruin that idea...
