It's the latest Olympic sport, men beating the **** out of women. In any other walk of life it would a criminal event but here he'll get a medal for it. The Olympic committee should be hanging their heads in shame, but they will more likely be patting themselves on the back for their inclusiveness. A big well done to everyone who campaigned for it.
As long as you both know these are not trans women but women who, like Semenya, have unusual gender make-ups. I agree it is questionable they should be allowed to fight, but let's not present this as a trans argument. I know neither of you would misrepresent this.
Caster Semenya is genetically male with DSD. Has gone through male puberty so has a physical developmental advantage over an XX athlete. Has internal testes and produces testosterone levels far in excess of levels produced by XX. Unfortunately, trying to reduce testosterone levels makes her sick, so she chooses not to take the drugs and is consequently banned because of it. She identifies as female, but the reality is that she's had male advantages in development and continues to do so whilst not artificially restricting those hormone levels. Sad that she can't compete, but it's just not fair if she does so unrestricted
Yes, I do know that and I'll represent it as I wish. Neither Imane Khelif or Lin Yu-ting are women and in that respect it is part of the "trans" argument in that they are men fighting against woman. Exactly the same position as if they were "trans". https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/08/01/the-olympics-are-putting-female-athletes-in-danger/
French archer has beaten GB archer. Few hundred years too late, but well done. Olympic surfing in Tahiti…presumably they don’t return to the Olympic Village in Paris every night
The boxing situation is a difficult one. For example for the Algerian female boxer, the alternative would be to say she’s never allowed to compete in the Olympics, which feels like it goes against Olympic values. Create a new category? Opens all sorts of issues (how much is too much….. not enough competitors to make a competition etc.) Having said all that, watching the video if the match against the Italian boxer from earlier (it’s on BBC page) is actually a little uncomfortable to watch. So I know my gut says she shouldn’t be in the competition but not sure what the solution is
It may seen harsh if they can't compete but when it comes to combat sports the potential alternative is much much worse.
I agree with you guys that it is harsh on these people who are already born ‘different’ that they can’t compete, but also that it is not okay for them to be in combat sport. I am just tired of people trotting out the culture wars every two minutes. Just feels so 2021. Let it go.

Of course you would argue for the wrong side Obviously men shouldn’t be allowed to fight women. In other better news. I absolutely love this story about Yusuf Dikec who just rocked up to the shooting in jeans and effortlessly won a silver medal. What a legend
Off the top of my head, our best gold hopes are probably 400M Men, 800M Women, 1500M Men, and pole vault Women.
