Can’t see KJT being able to run enough of a gap on Thiam in the 800 to overhaul the points difference. Should be a great watch seeing her give it a go though! Go on KJT!!
Thiam is just too good. KJT put in a PB but still not enough. Great silver medal for her though! Can’t believe it’s her first Olympic medal!
Way too good. I wasn't sure if I'd ever see a better heptathlete than Kluft, but I think Thiam might be. Kluft still has a better PB and more world golds, but Thiam's longevity to win three Olympic golds is very special.
Watched bit of breaking. Was willing to keep an open mind as you could relate it to floor exercise in gymnastics. Can see it must take some practice, but would rather watch paint dry. Music so awful. Has its place somewhere, but that’s not in the Olympics or my front room. Luckily for them not up to me
A female version of Mo Farah. She can run fast and see world records or she can run slow and slip to the front on the final lap. A tense race but enjoyable.
Fabulous men's triple jump with Spain winning by just 2 cm!!!! The ladies shotput was just as good. The NZ girl pinched the lead on the fifth throw, only for the German to nail it on her final one landing on the 20m mark. I love the movement of the athletes in this event and the way they are able to transfer their weight to keep themselves in the circle.
At the end of the athletics events, Spanish TV kept the coverage provided, focused on the crowd having a great time, dancing and waving their different flags. One interesting aspect being the Spanish reporter trackside doing one interview in English and then later doing one in Italian with the athlete who came second in the 10000m
I don't know what this event is. Are you suggesting it is something that should not really be an Olympic sport. To my mind football, tennis, basketball and golf should not really be Olympic sports unless restricted to those who are U21 in the discipline. We may as well include F1 as an event in a future Olympics.
For anyone else who was surprised that that was KJTs first Olympic medal last night. Here’s her Olympic timeline: 2012 - 19 years old and the exciting talent coming through following in Jess Ennis footsteps who won gold. KJT finished 13th 2016 - disrupted build up due to knee surgery finishing 6th (side note: if she’d have purely been competing in the Olympic high jump she’d had won gold!!) 2020 - Tears her calf muscle during the competition in the 200m 2024 - wins silver, only 36 points behind arguably the greatest ever heptathlete. Quite the journey!
At least they are sports. Breaking is a performing art. As commentator explained, you don’t have fixed elements you have to do…unlike gymnastics. Dancers are judged on how they react to their opponent. I know ballroom dancers have wanted to be in the Olympics…claiming how fit they have to be. No argument about that, but dancing is not a sport…unless you wear ice skates and it’s in the winter . Events come and go as host countries can select a couple , but breaking should definitely go.
Love the boulder and lead. When Brit in lead I keep yelling Fall, Fall at opponents Not sporting I know
GB have achieved target for medals in this Olympics, but bit light on gold medals. Underperformed in areas normally our bankers, but good to see medals in such a wide variety of sports.
What contrast there is between the 1500m Ingebrigsten and the 5000 m Ingebrigsten. HIs running style tonight was a complete contrast to that of Tuesday. He was calm, controlled and before taking full complete command of the race in the last 500m,
Just watched the 4x400 relays. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is just something else. US had a slight lead at the forst changeover, she just won that race for them on that leg. I thought Rai Benjamin did very well to hold off the challenge of Letsile in the men's 4x400. And unlike their 4x100 team, this one ran as a team and were without their gold medallist, Quincy Hall, from the 400m individual.
Finally the Kiwis have their gold medal in the Men's High Jump. I've not seen it before but as neither of McEwen nor Kerr had cleared 2.38 they had a jump off at 2.36 and then 2.34. Rather like a penalty shoot-out. McEwen failed, Kerr succeeded.
