I had a small disagreement with a fella in the pub last night whilst watching the England game. This chap was in a party of about a dozen (male and female) and was loudly - and I thought rather provocatively - cheering for the French. A few words were exchanged from our table to his and one of my party seemed keen to dispense violence. In an effort to calm things down, I went over to have a quiet word. The first thing I asked was if he was actually French, which would have been fine of course, 'No, I'm Iranian', he said, which prompted a discussion about why, as an Iranian living in England, he chose to support anyone opposing England. This didn't go particularly well and when I returned to my seat I was accosted by one of the women from his table who announced that everyone on their table was supporting France and that her reason for doing so was that she was Welsh. I told her that I was Welsh too (my Mum was born in Merthyr), but that didn't seem to cut any ice.

I'm really not sure if the Iranian was out of order or if I was.

They seem like a bunch of ****s to be honest. I agree with your mate….violence would have been well worth the effort and you should have clacked him over the head with the nearest blunt instrument.

Im in Ireland, near enough everyone loves to see England lose, it's just a fact of life, I just laugh it off...don't try and explain how the words to three lions are totally misunderstood though, that just makes it worse... grin and bear it, it's the English way :cheesy:

I have an Irish cousin who takes as much joy as Ireland winning as England losing. Small nation mentality. Same as with the Scots and the Welsh, they admit to being an inferior nation, probably classed as racism nowadays ... Oh well !

Unfortunately I’m not as thick skinned, I would have been arrested and our foreign friend would have been in A&E <whistle><whistle><whistle>

So why are Croatia not playing in their usual "Purina" shirts? I realize that Argentina is the "Home" side but they are both in blue now, red & white checkers would have made for a better contrast.

Teams England have beaten in World Cup Finals games since 2006:

Tunisia
Panama
Colombia
Sweden
Slovenia
Paraguay
Trinidad
Ecuador
Iran
Wales
Senegal

In other words, nobody.

Bit of a slow burner this one...... Croatia playing some nice football but not creating anything.....

Argentina done nowt either......

Terrible, terrible defending.
If that had been Maguire he'd have been ripped to shreds on here.

The whole passage of play was terrible from a Croatia perspective, from the short corner, the charged down attempted cross, the miss tackles, the opportunity to take one for the team, 2 lucky bounces off the covering players and a goalkeeper on a yellow card........

It wasn't just 1 defender involved it was a collective balls up........

Have you read this thread? It’s been rather restrained.

Messi in the final. It will be fun seeing which of Lineker, Shearer or Ferdinand gets the prize of giving him a blow job no matter what the result.

He is a great, great player but Maradona will always be better for me. Both were/are amazing cheats as well of course.
