With respect mate…..I wasn’t even born in ‘66 and England didn’t qualify in ‘78.
The fact of the matter is that us as football fans knew full well the oppressive laws in Qatar and it was massively publicised …..and the fact of the matter is that most were willing to ignore that, so that they could be entertained.

What difference does it make whether you were born or not or whether England qualified or not?
You've said the line repeatedly about people being jailed just for being gay. That's exactly what we were doing in 1966, so I presume you don't think we should have staged the tournament?
The Junta in Argentina was responsible for horrendous human rights offences, so again, I presume you think they shouldn't have been awarded the tournament?

So you can’t go to jail in the US just for being gay ?
It’s not about respecting the laws of any country….it’s about the rewarding to a country that has such laws, of what should be the greatest sporting event on earth.
And the fact that most were able to ignore those laws in the name of entertainment.
Staines mate. I never mentioned getting gaoled for being gay. And you must have read my second paragraph. I did mention that the candidates need to be vetted more vigorously (properly was the actual word). We're not disagreeing with you. In fact we agree, well I do anyway. I really shouldn't speak for anyone else. I stand by my point about the laws of other countries. We may not like them, or even abhor them, but we have to respect them. If we don't like them then we should not go there. Which was my point in the second paragraph.

What a great final ... in the end. ( I didn't care who won. )

It's hard to believe that the Argentine goalie's .. Emiliano Martinez ... previous clubs have been ...

Arsenal

Oxford United

Sheff Weds

Rotherham United

Wolves ( While they were in the championship )

Getafe

Reading and now Villa.

So a downhill spiral from the Premier League then back again with Villa. I thought putting the Golden Glove trophy in his crotch was a rather weird thing to do at the awards ceremony.

Emi Martinez performs X-rated gesture by humping trophy right in front of FIFA hierarchy
Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez left FIFA officials watching on in bemusement as he placed his Golden Glove award to his crotch and performed an X-rated gesture with it

Ok then…..no I don’t think we should have held it in ‘66. And no I don’t think Argentina should have held it in ‘78.
Better now ?
I also don’t think we should have held people as slaves in the 1600’s and I don’t think that the Vikings should have raped, pillaged and murdered during their time.
It’s all getting a bit bizarre now, don’t you think ?

I don't think you should've got out of bed this morning you grumpy ****

Most countries will have laws some don't like
The next ones in America
Bound to have a few dodgy laws
Who should get the world cup

Give it to Scotland! Imagine the uproar when Budweiser realise you can't buy a beer in a football stadium here. Would need to be held over the three days in May when the weather is ok, but there has to be a breeze else the midges will eat everyone alive.

Apart from that, anything goes so bring on the party <diva><cracker><cheers>

You're kind of making my point for me there mate.
Look, we'll never agree on this I fear.
I understand what you're saying and completely agree about how corrupt Fifa appear to be and how abhorrent the regime in Qatar is on certain human rights and beliefs.
I disagree about a boycott etc.
We'll have to agree to differ mate.

Im not making your point in any way, shape or form mate……but by what you have said…you’re making mine completely.

As you say, we’ll agree to disagree

What about all the countries that still hold people as slaves ? Would rule out a helluva lot of African countries and we can't have that !

Which countries have an official policy of keeping people as slaves mate ?
I know nothing about official policy but I do know that 3 of the top 10 countries that still have slaves are in Africa. The policy is taking members of fellow tribes as their own and using them strictly as slaves. Nigeria is the highest, The DROC is next and then South Sudan. These numbers pale into almost insignificance when compared to such Places as India and China, but modern day slavery is abundant across most of Asia and alot of Africa. Its prevalent in parts of Europe aswell, there's no doubting that. What does get my goat is the people that still bang on about slavery from centuries ago, without ever noting the slavery that takes place today in those countries that suffered so much in those periods ! People prefer to turn a blind eye to such facts because it doesn't help their agenda !

With respect then mate, it’s none. We are talking Givernment and official policy…..appallingly, in my opinion, the West have in and pandered to the Qatari money machine….the WC should never have been held in such a place….and the fact that the West allowed this to happen is, in my opinion, appalling.
Anyway it’s over now and everyone can get back to having a conscience

Regardless of where the World Cup is actually held the footballs used are all made in Pakistan, largely by child labour.
