Morocco would be very happy to win that game and come 3rd in the World Cup, Croatia wouldn’t be bothered either way

What the heck has the Morocco trainer got against Ilias Chair. It is as though IC's not even there? Really should have brought him on in the second half. Ilias knows how to put the ball in the net, and also set-up his teammates for a tap-in goal. Fed-up, really am.

Find this a bit strange how Morocco have been painted as playing for the whole of Africa - their manager even played this up by saying the whole continent was behind them. Which raises the question of whether those in sub Saharan Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast etc. really identify with Morocco, or whether the same is true the other way around - I doubt both of these. Historically Morocco has more cultural connection to Spain than to Ghana. Also from the squad of 26 players only 12 were actually born there, the rest being Dutch, Belgian or French. The French national squad, in contrast, is 80% of immigrant origins, mostly African - so exactly who was representing Africa ?

True. They will be proud of what they achieved. Whereas the Croats will be massively disappointed. They are already expressing pretty universal feelings of having been cheated even by Modric who at least had the decency to acknowledge that the Argentinians were the better team. It was a bit like Hughes droning on how well we we were playing if we had the vast majority of the possession even though we might have spent all that time passing it sideways between the back four.

What percentage of them are from Algerian decent ? Historically alot of the French team have been from there, and the rest of the French nation have despised them. Even Zidane was disliked until he won them trophies, and then after his sending off in the final v Italy he was despised again lol.

Here the majority of North African / Arabic nations have adopted Morocco as their second team, especially the huge Egyptian population. They are all immensely proud to see Morocco give it a go

Maybe not so straightforward for 'us' to understand but if you spend much time in the MENA region you will appreciate the sentiment of getting one over on the long standing European / South American strongholds

Also a quick word on the Croatians, my usual waterhole is the sports bar at the Hilton where the Croatian team are based. Fanatical and genuinely football mad, the Croats have camped there en masse and are so proud of their country and team, way more than I have witnessed in other teams supporters. My lad was wearing his Guinness top and they all wanted to talk about the London football scene

From what I can gather, the French like to back themselves in the big moments of a football match. You can have the ball and try to break us down but you will not do it. If you do, we will create another chance and we will score because we have the players to execute this. Have all the chances and possession you want, but we will prevail in the end.

Argentina 1 France 2 ( Maybe even penalties ) The French are pedantic and don't get emotional.

There's been talk of Mbappé being the best player in the World, but even at 35 years of age Messi has outshone him in this tournament.

Why would you have the so-called best player in the World wasting his time on the left wing?

I used to argue with you, about who is the best player Stroller. I was in the Ronaldo camp, but now I''m in the Messi camp .. Is that allowed?

I'd love to see Messi win the World Cup, what a great career. Not sure it will happen though.

I thought Messi was older than 35 ... if he's not ... he's a **** footballer! Devon White is better than Messi!

As between him and spoilt brat Ronaldo I'd much prefer Messi to win it. Couldn't you just imagine how much flaunting of the body beautiful the former would do if he played in the Final and scored. After the Switzerland game , the Portugese nation must have begun to wonder how much more successful they might have been if they had a team player all along instead of someone who thinks he is a God among mortals and sulks if not every ball is played to him.

It reminded me of the season when Rodney was eventually sold to Citeh. Everyone thought our season would implode but instead we went on an end of season run which almost took us up and the following season having acquired Givens for peanuts, Stan the man and then Dave Thomas we strolled the 2nd Division with Burnley. Still remember Rodney's return when we absolutely slaughtered City. 3-0 but it could have been 6 or 7 as they could not live with us

World Cup 2022: Fifa to reconsider format of 2026 World Cup after 'best ever' tournament

Last updated on5 hours ago5 hours ago. From the sectionWorld CupDay-by-day TV listings - Full coverage details
Fifa is to reconsider the format of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, says president Gianni Infantino.

The teams will increase from 32 to 48 for the competition and were set to be divided into 16 groups of three, with the top two progressing to the last 32.

Infantino said that would be looked at after the "success" of the four-team groups at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

"Here the groups of four have been absolutely incredible," said Infantino.

"Until the last minute of the last match you would not know who goes through.

"We have to revisit or at least re-discuss the format. This is something that will certainly be on the agenda in the next meeting."

The group stages in Qatar included some exciting final games as countries tried to secure a top-two place to qualify for the last 16.

The four-team group format, with the top two going through to the knockout stages, has been used since the men's World Cup expanded to 32 teams in 1998.
