My opinion hasn't changed yet. Any calls for a team win are silly though well meaning. It's PLAYER of the season. So for me it's Pukki a *** paper ahead of Zimmermann, Arrons and Buendia. But I could easily change my mind if Pukki continues his lean spell (Though he is still contributing and important to these wins even without scoring) and one of the others stands head and shoulders above all others for the remaining 7 games. Bah!
Agreed, though I don’t see how it can be anyone other than Pukki. Obviously the others have all been magnificent and Zimmermann in particular has just grown and grown, but ultimately goals win matches and while you could argue the toss on who is more important to wins, Pukki is well into being one of our top scorers in a season of all time. That speaks volumes. When you factor in his assists and his phenomenal work in defence (there was one point on Saturday where Boro were breaking and Pukki was legging it to defend in the fullback position! Truly amazing and well into the second half as well) makes his contribution, for me, a complete package.
Some VERY reasoned discussions and I've a feeling it will be quite close, but we don't get to know the %age of the votes cast for each player. As Jack says in his article, each and every player in the squad should end up with a medal anyway!!!
I agree too, but Pukki is not a one man team, it has been the great support play and team in general that have provided him with all those chances and a platform to shine. For that reason I don't think it's as clear cut as some previous years, but as I said before I would vote for him. I can however see why Emi, Zimmermann, Steipermann or Arrons could get some votes. Zimmermann's influence of course seems to keep growing and often that late surge can sway votes. Bah!
Agree with this and to me, one of the main reasons we are where we are is the willingness of all of our attacking players to track back to defend when the ball is lost. Buendia and Hernandez are particularly good at getting back and breaking up attacks. Snodgrass was good at that, but the present two are far better. As for medals, let's hope all of the players pick up a league league champions medal!
And sadly, Redmond and both Murphy twins were way off the mark when we didn't have possession. So the money we got for all three, given their reluctance / inability to get back and defend is / was even more remarkable. Much of this current squad's defensive mindset is presumably down to Farke's coaching methods?
Very much agree, GM, especially Redmond, who didn't seem to think defending was in his job description. This aspect of Farkeball is reminiscent of the 'total football' concept of a few years back.
I broadly agree with this, but was there a failure at coaching level to get the best out of those players? I thought part of the reason Jacob got sold first was because he had ahead of his brother developed a bit more consistency and a bit more defensive nouse. Another season under Farke and I think he might have been very productive. Those players unless they pull their socks up will probably be viewed as the sort of lazy and inconcistent wingers that will only ever get remembered for having failed to fulfil their undoubted potential. Bah!
The fact that they've hardly set the world on fire since they left, suggests to me that it's more to do with them than the coach.
I agree, but I was just thinking out loud. if there is to be any saving them and defensive ethos installed, Farke was the man. Bah!
I though exactly the same . It's got to the point now where they need a bigger page to fit it all on.
From what I understand, 3 wins from last 7 matches should be enough to win the league? I think most of us, based on the season so far would predict the following: QPR home win Reading home win Wigan away win Sheffield Wed. home win Stoke away draw Blackburn home win Aston Villa away draw / lose Minimum 16 points?
This is the championship, the minimum is 0 points as no games are just a role over. I keep thinking we'll slip up, but we haven't so far, so I reckon you have it about right, with that said, apart from Blackburn and Stoke, all are likely to have something to play for so tough games the lot and i could easily see us losing at least one more. But that would likely be plenty for promotion and most likely the title. Bah!
16 points is possible, but more than we need. The maximum the Blades can achieve if they win every remaining game is 95 points. That's unlikely. 13 points would see us finish with 94 points which should be enough for promotion and most probably finishing top as well (the maximum for Leeds is 97 points). These figures will wind down every time our opponents drop points.
I'm going to go ahead and stick my neck on the line...(!) and say that I think 91 points will definitely see us promoted and probably see us win the title.
