Vital Norwich take on the new season and our possible formations. Michael Bailey's starting eleven is 'interesting', to say the least!! https://norwich.vitalfootball.co.uk/nervous-for-the-new-season-im-worried-norwich-wont-change/

Birmingham in a state of turmoil ahead of this weekend's kick off https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/foot...-monk-going-frustrated-birminghams-13004484?x
The difference in personnel is amazing, DH. IMO, a 4-1-4-1 this season will be different because those personnel are very different, except for Vrancic. He and Leitner keep it fluid, dropping back to CM to make it 4-2-3-1 when the ball is lost. That was more difficult with Madders, who wanted to operate in that central space. In effect, he has been replaced by Pukki, who naturally moves forward when the ball is won leaving Leitner (or Vrancic) space to operate in what then becomes a 4-1-3-2 with two strikers ready to receive the ball. The FBs then push forward to make it an attacking 2-1-5-2. The 4-1-4-1 is just the mid point in this fluidity. When the ball is lost and the opposition attacks all but the two strikers drop back to defend with two ranks of four. I completely agree that the other key is to have a proper DM shielding the defence, not a hybrid CM/DM like Trybull (or Reed last season).
The difficulty with MB's 3-4-3 is that it takes a player away from the attack and reduces fluidity. I can see it when we're away against strong teams, but not at Brum. Also, as said above, Trybull is not enough on his own as a DM shielding the defence. If Rhodes can't play, then move Pukki up front and add Trybull in his place.
He used to play predominantly alongside Tettey as one of 2 DMs last season. We know AT is not match fit, but MB suggests playing McLean alongside Trybull?
Surely all systems should be fluid. the attack formation should change to a more defensive formation when the ball is lost. we would only play 5-3-2 in defence for instance, or even 5-4-1, but when attacking the wing backs become attackers so we evolve into a 3 4-3 or variants of it. But the basic system we play will be reliant on the 10 outfield players selected. Some will be more adept in one system and others in a different lineup.
I agree we have more of a rounded team, but the amount of times Madders genius got us out of trouble that Farkes negative crap tactics got us into. I really hope Farke has learnt a massive amount from last season. If not, then we don’t have a worldie to drag us through. That’s my main concern.
A very in-depth preview of our league this season, including player ins and outs and promotion and relegation predictions. http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/championship-media-predictions-1-5633758
I didn’t realise the EFL highlights have moved to Quest this year!? The football league is really falling down the tv stations!
Season preview from MB of Archant - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...ew-season-optimism-and-predictions-1-5635327m Like the majority of us 'cautiously optimistic'
Maybe surprisingly, I am looking forward to the new season with a renewed interest .... lord alone knows how long that will last - over to the boys on the pitch I am very optimistic about getting 3 points from Birmingham tomorrow, and anything less than a draw will be bitterly disappointing, unless "Brum" play like barcelona
Just read that JMF and he makes some good points. This season, like most, will rest on how well the new players gel into a smooth functioning team. MB highlights Buendia, who has looked good in his cameos so far and could well be a surprise package. Initially however, more will rest on Championship veterans like Rhodes and Marshall, who seem to have fitted in well so far and hopefully Pukki and McLean will carry their good pre-season into the league. Krul needs to develop a good relationship with his defence, which is well settled now and strengthened by the addition of Marshall. I also look forward to what Thompson and Godfrey will bring to the DM role, though the latter has the additional ability to play as a CB, a flexibility which is useful in both positions. I certainly feel more positive now than I did at this time last season.
I will be very shocked if Stoke don't win the league. In the same way as Wolves last season. Spend stupid money in the right places. No one else can compete.
One large oversight was their thoughts on our plans going forward. They made no reference to Webber and the DofF/coach at least in theory adding on going continuity and long term strategy. No mention that whilst they are buying young and British, we are filling our academy with bright young players (that's a category 1 academy binner boys). After all, their brave new dawn is based on a new manager buying youngsters but what if he fails or appears to be failing? as well he might, will ME sack him, get another experienced guy and a bunch of freebie veterans to stave off relegation? Bah!
