I used to know someone whose son was a musician on cruise ships. Was on a number of round the world cruises. He had photographs of his son with David Niven and Roger Moore amongst others. Had some interesting tales about cruises and the dos and don'ts. His opinions on the best cruise ships didn't always tally with the perceptions I had at the time.
Quebec City can be a lively place - the Mrs's sister lived there so been a few times. Maine's beautiful country. One trip to Quebec City was very memorable - 5-a-side football tournament. One morning, about 10 a.m., I went down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. Most of the lads were already sitting down, most naturally hung-over. The maitre-d' stopped me at the door, and suggested, in very good broken English, that I would not be allowed in the restaurant. I assumed he was referring to the open bottle of beer I had in my hand, so I handed it to him and apologised. " Non monsieur, it's not the beer, it's because you are not wearing shoes !". Never felt so embarrassed. My team mates never let me forget it.
Good story! I'll remember to not be discalced! I've been to QC once before and am looking forward to seeing more of it. Got a free room on points at the Chateau Frontenac. I doubt it's the one Churchill stayed in, though. ;-)
Norwegian cruise line has what they call freestyle dining, so no set dining times you just book the restaurants like usual, or rock up on spec whenever you want. Cruises are great but I hate been tied down to a fixed dining time so it works well. My old man was offered the Captaincy of the Canberra as his last gig before retirement. Older posters will remember her. Silly old bugger turned it down saying he'd sailed round the world enough times in the past, so why the hell would he do it again. Duh, thanks Dad.
If this has been posted before I apologise, but I have read that insurance companies are trawling social media for people posting their holiday details, dates/destinations/flights/arrivals and departures that type of thing, and if they find that someone has posted all the said details, and, unfortunately, anything untoward happens at their empty house whilst away then they will invalidate any insurance claim. Not sure if that covers all eventualities of just burglary.
Impressive looking hotel that. Are you on a state visit ? You'll probably still be able to smell the stale cigar smoke. Enjoy the trip.
Been lots of years ago, I liked it there with kids It was pricey but we were on a freebie (competition win) so maybe that made it more appealing!
heh ah the old man loves it there. he pays for an all inclusive holiday. sticky vickis show is worth seeing.
Went 9 years ago and really enjoyed it. It was a a bit bizarre because Danny Mills ( with his family, obviously) was in the next lodge to me. I also met Ronnie Moore and, who was a decent fella, and saw Alan Wiley. As in the rotund ex PL referee.
