The championship race for staying novice chasers, the RSA Chase is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles and 110 yards, and during its running there are nineteen fences to be jumped. Previous winners have included subsequent Gold Cup winners Lord Windemere, Bobs Worth, Denman, Garrison Savannah, Mandarin and of course Arkle, plus Grand National winners such as Miinehoma.

This years renewal could potentially see a clash of the titans between Gordon Elliot's No More Heroes (2nd in last year's Albert Bartlett, unbeaten in 3 over fences including 2 Grade 1s) and Jonjo O'Neill's More Of That (famously beat Annie Power in the World Hurdle, returned after injury and is 2 from 2 in novice chases). The betting currently favours No More Heroes at around the 5/2 mark with More Of That available at 4s. The rest of the British challenge appears to centre around the admirable Blaklion, Vyta Du Roc and Seeyouatmidnight whilst Willie Mullins has his usual clutch of entries but I will be hoping Black Hercules lines up as I have him at tasty odds ante post.
