If Clyne is pushing to leave behind-the-scenes, then maybe 15m. If he's not, but we're not sure about whether we like the contract terms then 20m.

Anything less than that is a joke. Normally, I'd say a leaked crap offer like that is an attempt to unsettle the player. But that offer is so crap, and Rodgers seems so divorced from reality right now, it wouldn't surprise me if Saints leaked it just to make Liverpool look like idiots and unsettle them instead.

Why am I. I just don't see they have much more right now or in the fairly near future.

That's is very poor and assumptive interpretation of people's posts. You and I have exchanged most views, so I'll assume a lot of that is aimed at me. I can not believe how far off it is.

I'll leave this now if you are going to be so narrow that you are putting views into my head now.

It doesn't matter the difference between Saints and Liverpool, so much as Liverpool's own image issue.

If you believe that you are good enough to play for a prestige club, then why would you pick Liverpool over Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, or even Man U.? Not to mention the possibilities in other leagues.

The player pool is a labor market. And to succeed in the market you need to have some kind of appeal to the those you wish to attract. I don't see any niche where Liverpool has a competitive advantage. Right now I'd say they are viewed largely as the crappiest of the big clubs. You never want to be the worst in the market. Whereas we are viewed more as one of the more attractive options in the mid-price market and a good place for players to develop.

We are not going to sign Eden Hazard. So there's definitely clubs who stomp all over us and players we cannot compete for. But for a young player, or a player still on the rise we are not a bad "stepping stone." But there are other players we can compete for and may even have and advantage. We have first class facilities, you can play every day, the manager seems to know what they are doing, and the club has a plan. Look at the transfer fees we've commanded. Come here, play 2-3 years, and you can cash out bigtime. You just have to be smart about where you make your next move.

Clyne can stay here one more year, do well, and then get a shot at a club better than Liverpool. A lot of other players at various clubs will be thinking the same thing... instead of going to some sketchy "big club" like Liverpool, they can wait and do better.

I just can't think of a situation where Liverpool would be anyone's first choice. You have to find a niche in the market that you serve the best. It might not be the most appealing niche, but you deal with it for now. You don't ever want to be the worst in your market niche. And Liverpool is the worst.

They should fire Rodgers, hire Klopp, and sell most of their players. Hand Klopp a bagful of cash and at least they will give off the vibe that they are completely reinventing themselves, have cash, making them an interesting proposition. That's better than the image they have now. And that's what they were going for when they hired Rodgers in the first place, and I think that worked. It's just that Rodgers has gone off the boil.

I haven't seen one poster say Liverpool aren't a bigger club. That wasn't the debate.

It wasn't aimed at you actually, I have seen over the course of the season quite a few posters say how poor Liverpool and Rodgers are and in more recent times (with the Clyne and Schneiderlin speculation) why would they want to join either of those clubs. As you rightly say it is most likely down to money, but as I was trying to argue the fact they have this money is what makes them more appealing in many other ways.

But I Sorry I Ruined the Party has summed it up well, Liverpool are in the bottom tier of prestige clubs in England, but they still are a prestige club and that is my whole point about why he would want to leave. I have said a few times that if Clyne has other options like Arsenal/Chelsea/City/Utd then he would be stupid to move to Liverpool, but if it is his only "prestige club" option then I won't blame him.

I'm sorry if we got our wires crossed at some point, overall it has been a good conversation.

Liverpool have a tremendous history and it is recent. You cannot get away from that fact. Their fans are just as fanatical as any you care to mention. By their standards they have had a very poor season.
As far as the adoration of the cub though for their fans they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. We don't have their history in the top flight and quite frankly will not gain that kind of adoration for many many years if ever. That doesn't mean we do not adore our club any less.
It is the most natural thing in the world for a player to have their heads turned by a team with such a history. To me it is no brainier.......although it still doesn't mean I like it.
