Just noticed that the background has been changed on the Spurs official twitter page again since it was changed to remove the Bale and Dempsey pics. If it's the case that they rotate it all the time then what a **** load of ****e that story was!
FT. 6-3 to go with our 4-2 from the first game. Need to shore things up at the back, but scoring 10 in 2 is pretty impressive.
Just got back. From 5-1 to 6-3 (should have been 7 as Tommy missed an open goal sitter) . A <standard> day in the life of the U21s Spurs won because Citeh had no discernable CM. Spurs conceded 3 mainly due to sloppy passing in MF which was deservedly punished.
So to summarise - We played a strong midfield with Carrol & Sandro. City had no discernable midfield We conceded against their non-discernable midfield with sloppy passing! sounds about right for spurs!
With Sandro and Falque being the non-strictly U21s. Not that it mattered (baby Bale etc instead would have had the same effect) . I am just waiting to read the Spurcat summary (God knows what defensive 'formation' we were trying out today) .
City's review of the game: http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Match-reports/2013/August/Spurs-u21s-v-City-EDS?
Their first goal came when they finally managed to clear long (not hoof) after sloppy MF play. Spurs were playing the high line, and Citeh came close a couple of times to bypassing when they got the ball back in their own half. Also fortunate was they didn't work McQueen more with their No. 11 (their No.11 was much faster, and McQueen was isolated a lot with the 'semi-circle' back four line) . Carrolls' passing was quite intricate today.
For those of you who ae tempted to take a trip down to Hotspur Way to see our Under 21 Development squad in action, then be prepared to see a team who can blow away the opposition with quick passing and movement, a team who can score goals for fun, a team who can play such scintillating stuff that you daren't take your eye from the play. But you will also see a side that can switch off so quickly and unexpectedly, and start to give away possession when not really under pressure and then start defending like a Sunday morning pub team. And that was really the story of today. Some great stuff, some clinical finishing and some kamikaze defending to concede needless goals. AVB was in the attendance as was the ex- Norwich City goalkeeper Bryan Gunn, watching his son Angus in the City goal. Frankly, City were blown away in the early stages, Carroll was involved in everything and in a midfield which also included Falque, Sandro and Andros, then it was clear where this game would be won. Harry Kane has far outgrown this standard, all his 3 goals were good finishes and Tom Carroll was a level above anyone else on the pitch. Falque is a decent prospect and is having a fine start to his season, Coulthirst didn't have long but as in the Chelsea game a week ago, looked a good player. Sandro was understandably cautious, not the swashbuckling pre-injury player we know and love and he was blowing after 50 minutes or so. This is a good start for this side, but there are one or two lessons still haven't been heeded from last season and before they are corrected, the team will continue to leak unnecessary goals throughh simply losing concentration. Upton Park next on Friday evening.
"But you will also see a side that can switch off so quickly and unexpectedly, and start to give away possession when not really under pressure and then start defending like a Sunday morning pub team." Not just me then (thank God) . Carroll obviously read my critique the other day too. And Boss will be happy. So then, what to do about Kane and Carroll. Caught in limbo. A bit too good for the league below, a bit too risky for a PL loan. There are Europa/League Cup games aplenty for both of them. If they can impress in those + PL appearances in Carrolls' case, they might tempt a January loan.
Kane does seem too good for that level, he has so much time he can score when he wants. However, when he tries to step up he appears rushed. Does anyone think he is trying too hard? Personally I think a loan to a top flight team abroad who play at a slightly slower pace, say Portugal or Spain would do him the world of good. Give him a bit of confidence and prove he can do it at a higher level.

Figured it'd be good to keep all this u21 stuff all in one place, 6061 Will be interesting to see how we do today, I expect we'll be without Kane, Carroll and Coulthirst and maybe another one or two if they travelled but didn't make the bench.
