He was a JUCO guy who makes no damn sense in the first round. None of the pundits in your table (which is great, by the way) mention him at all.

Ingram a good value pick at #18.

Patriots trade up. Presumably for Jones or Mercilus?

Oh God. My Browns-loving friends will hang themselves over this Brandon Weeden pick.

I think the Browns missed a trick there. Weeden wasn't going anywhere else IMO, and I reckon they could've traded down and got another pick for their troubles. Also I think the 49ers might well trade up for DeCastro now.

I'm really happy with the Reiff pick. We really needed a lineman - and I wanted DeCastro - but a tackle from Iowa? Not half bad.

Two best guards gone. Interesting to see what 49ers do now.

A.J. Jenkins. Going for a wide receiver and waiting to draft a guard makes sense, but that selection is a little surprising.

ESPN didn't like it. They graded the Jenkins pick a C-, which is second worst behind Bruce Irvin.

Interesting pick from the Giants at the end. I've updated the pundit table, might need a few more tweaks come the second round.

Best value has to be DeCastro at 24, outrageously good pick. So many good names dropping... as a Colts fan I'm hoping we go for Fleener tomorrow but would be happy with Hill, Glenn, Upshaw... lots of them.

Also, another thing I have to do as a Colts fan...

    Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhh

Notice people saying there's not a lot in it, or should have gone for Griffin but went for Luck on name? Name has nothing to do with it, Griffin is the media hyped pick and the more fashionable one, if we were doing it by name we'd go for him. Luck is better in a lot of ways, it's not THAT close - both have potential to be great QBs but Luck really is special, I've watched so much film on both I can say that with some confidence.

With you on DeCastro; I'm a Lions fan and that's who I really wanted, but can't complain with Reiff. Regarding Luck, it's a great pick for you guys. He's a better fit in your offense than RG3 would have been. Love Griffin's athleticism, which fits perfectly in the Shanahan offense. He loves the rollout, and that suits him to a T. Just got to hope that Luck isn't the next Cade McNown and Griffin isn't Akili Smith.

I think the Colts will go for Fleener tomorrow.

But Dwayne Allen is a good prospect too, and that has me wondering whether the Colts will roll the dice on Fleener by trading down slightly in the belief that no-one will draft him in the meantime. If it doesn't pay off they should still end up with Allen and the extra pick, which might be just as valuable.

Reiff is a great pick too, both dropped more than I expected (but that happens when people do stupid things like pick Weeden at 22). Most surprising trade/pick is definitely Cowboys to 6 for Claiborne - Claiborne has said he'd never spoken to Cowboys until they picked him!

The issue is, Griffin can't call plays at all. Luck has been calling plays for two years and is a genius, Griffin ran a spread system being fed plays with very good receivers.

The O-liners really aren't fashionable this year :p, with Cordy Glenn dropping to the second round. Hopefully my Ravens snag one of him, Hill or Upshaw :) I'd be delighted with that plus the extra 4th rounder we could use to trade up for Konz.

The NY Jets got "their guy". He is a monster that will go after the opposing team's Quarterback.
He is just what they needed. I'm happy.

Once a team drafts a player, they have the exclusive right to sign him. If the player doesn't want to play for the team that selected him, he can sit home or stay in school to get his degree. The rights to sign players get traded, just like players themselves.

When there were two professional football leagues, the players had leverage to get what they wanted.
Now, not so much. Now they need vicious agents.

Promised the other half that I'd do some food shopping for this weekend. But I can't do it tomorrow morning, because I've got a busy day revolving around my beloved Watford. So I'm going now (there's nothing like shopping in a supermarket at night, you can be in and out in a few minutes).

I'll be back to update at the end of the second round, and will decide whether to continue with live coveage or post end of round updates depending on feedback.

Michael Smith going to Tampa! This guy is pretty fast, 4.26 PB for 40 yards, seems odd that he went in round 7.

    Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1 (7) Mark Barron, DB, Alabama

1 (31) Doug Martin, RB, Boise State

2 (58) Lavonte David, LB, Nebraska

5 (140) Najee Goode, LB, West Virginia

6 (174) Keith Tandy, DB, West Virginia

7 (212) Michael Smith, RB, Utah State

7 (233) Drake Dunsmore, TE, Northwestern

    Lot of defense there.
