Something to do with keeping the animal pure, stunning is essentially disabling the animal rendering it 'bad meat'. That's the Kosher way of looking at it. Kosher slaughterers hand pick prime, well reared meat and poultry. Their killing method is to cut the throat, jugular, main veins etc and the animal should die in 2-3 seconds. Halal slaughterers SHOULD practice the exact same method of slaughter, but they don't, they also don't care how the meat has been reared and they also don't care about pumping it full of preservatives after the 'killing'.

Apparently with halal, verses from the q`ran are read out over the animal while it bleeds to death. That reason alone is enough for me. I refuse to eat something which has been ritually sacrificed to allah.

I remember I was gonna try it, bought a pack and stuck it in the fridge at work, forgot about it and 2 days later no word of a lie, it had brown goop oozing from it. If I'd have taken that home and marinaded it I'd have never noticed that crap. I hate that so many restaurants sell it as if it's a privilege for the customer, it's not right.

I read that 80% of Dutch halal slaughtered meat goes into the general market, mostly into the supermarkets, as there just isn't the halal market out there to sell the meat produced by the abbatoirs. So if thats the same over here, good luck trying to avoid it guys.
