Sad really that anyone from a working class community can try and justify Thatcher destroying communities and leaving thousands and thousands without work.

Relying on food parcels and unable to buy clothes for their children , faced with losing their homes.

I drive around S Wales in my job. Even now the signs are there of the destruction she caused. Boarded up shops and pubs and areas relying on benefits when they should have work. The Valley areas developed from work from indusry. That industry was taken away by Thatcher.

Very very sad when someone from our own area trys to justify the destruction using profit for what for thousands their way of living destroyed.

Thatcher would be delighted with the im all right attitude shown.

Hilts I couldn't agree more! I have some vivid memories of what she did, she came into power the year I got married, and I had a Job at the time, that sent me into all the communities that she ruined, on a daily basis I would visit homes that were blighted by her policies, there is no way I can forget the terrible suffering she caused, and I for one have stepped back from this debate, in order not to offend those that argue a case for her.............

Before the strike i was happy to be british, but being an enemy of the british state by being a south wales miner fighting for my job, that was when i changed my attitude, jager thatcher treated me and my fellow miners as an enemy of this country, unable to travel freely , many of my friends were arrested for standing on the side of the road, were you aware that anyone employed by ford uk, first had to be vetted by the secret service to see if they were subversives and if they had any political affiliation ford refused to employ them if they were found to be members of undesirable political organisations, this was thatcher and ford working together, i have plenty to hate that bitch for as do thousands of others

Jager! There's no point in bringing up stats for the support or incrimination of any of these politicians, it's all pointless. What you should be focusing on is this, we are one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and we have this debt simply down to the criminal recklessness of our banking system, which might I add, had all restraints removed by Thatcher some time back, and we didn't have to burden the country with this debt, had we let these banks go to the wall, but that was never going to happen, while those that would have lost the most, would have been the ruling class, so it was always going to be the working class and the poor amongst us, that were going to pay the price for the inept bankers, because they are the weakest and easiest target to go for, our system is rotten to the core, and time the british people took to the streets mate!................

Yet when the unions were in control of things you couldn't even get a job if you weren't in their union, you came from the wrong family or your face didn't fit. You may be right about ford above, but the unions were doing exactly that for decades before, they probably got the idea from them.

I just think unbridled hatred of someone is wrong, and that is where most problems occur today. I said I thought Scargill was a scumbag, and the political parties and unions. Do I hate them ? No I just think they are scum, it's an opinion through many years of observation and dealing with them.

Perhaps you are missing the point, Blair and Brown had a chance to make changes, but they didn't they just empowered the banks to be hugely more irresponsible. Just look at the ppi scandal. Thatcher made changes in banking, but successive labour and conservative governments were negligent and could be deemed corrupt in not making legislation to curtail it.

Brown and Blair said they will stop the boom and bust cycle, they didn't they made it a whole lot worse. Are you happy that your children and grandchildren will be paying for the excesses of a labour government that lasted 13 years, but will be paying for decades.

You want to blame thatcher for everything, but what about the ****ers that were in power after her ?

Gambling Bankers = Bankrupt banks = Government Bail out = Government Debt = Take the money from the poorest = Cutbacks effecting the very poorest in society = Steal from the poor to pay off the Rich gambling debts!


At least in Cyprus they were not going to touch accounts with less than £100,00 Euro? protecting those with the least!............





Britain is said to be worth £10.3 trillion? The Richest 10% of UK households own 40% of that £10 trillion, yet we make the poorest in our society, pay the burden of this banking collapse, what does that say about us? By the way the wealthy households are typically in London and the south of England.

There is always going to be a rich class of people and a poor class of people, the communists tried equality across the board, Lenin was full of those ideas. In other parts of the world the disparity of wealth is even more startling , where the wealthy hold about 95% of the wealth. And talking of Cyprus its been suggested that wealthy Russians were tipped off, and they moved their money before this happened, so the people getting hit the hardest are small businesses with money in their accounts, and retired people who have gone there in their twighlight years only to find that up to 60% of their money could be gone.

Thatcher was a puppet but she accepted her role with glee pursuing her own right wing ideology and destroyed vast swathes of industry and ruined communities. Rather than phase it in over a period of time to allow communities to adapt her goverment reaped economic vandalism on our country. She didn't believe in society - so she destroyed it.

Which brings us to our own area - South Wales. Large areas destroyed by Thatcher and many of our own 606 boys have obviously suffered the consequences. So when you glorify the unions getting slammed under Thatcher and call them the scum of the earth, you may find you get an adverse reaction.

Blair - he was more right wing than Thatcher and the Labour party no longer represents the working class. Cameron and the current day Tories have got a free reign. The donkeywork was done by Thatcher - all they have to do is break the Civil Service and then it is job done. The race to the bottom is on - your 8% pay rise could easily turn into a 50% pay cut. Holidays and employement rights - F*** them. We are on our way back to the Victorian workshops. Do you like soup - you better had because there will be no welfare state to fall back on.

As I said about public school boys who are the politicians of the country previously a number of times. They have no concept of struggle and no concept of work and graft. I'm not disagreeing with you on that.

But I disagree on the unions, they had to much power and needed to be brought down, Scargill was equally a pawn, one that was backed by the extreme left wing, or communists for short. His ilk in other unions were the same, read the Newcastle thread on how they destroyed the shipping industry up north, they are responsible for that and others. Like knackered said about the steel works with people working there with jobs for life.

You say going back to the Victorian age, I very much doubt that, I very much doubt any oppressive government like they have in the Middle East will ever be here.

Also does my 8% pay rise gets your gander up ? I have worked damned hard to be successful, is that insulting to you that someone works hard and gets rewarded for it ? The reason I gave that bit information is just to highlight the fact you don't need union agreements to get a good deal from companies, they offered it we accepted. Not difficult decision really.
