Then go to a politics debating forum, Rhys. Plenty out there. As for 'costing a lot of people'....my Mum and Dad were solidly working class, worked hard all their lives and eventually bought their council house thanks to Thatcher. If you were a miner on the other hand I can understand your ire.

Either way - dancing on anyone's grave on a Swans footie forum has to be inappropriate doesn't it? The whole tone of this thread makes me rather sad as it's shown the worse side of people here.

One guy summed it up on another board:

"Whatever peoples views on here are at the end of the day an 87yr old woman has died of a stroke and that is nothing to gloat about....."

I know my view counts for **** all around here these days but I agree.

Proves what I knew - PL isnt that good.

Saw Wigan and QPR yesterday - both rubbish and I predict at least 2 of the 3 going down will have a right struggle in The Championship next season.
 
the woman was evil, she orchestrated a war to get re-election. her policies decimated the communities of our country. over here in Asia she's revered as great female champion and yet she did more to damage the opportunities of women than any other female politician. rot in hell maggie!
 
I have personally had a lot of deaths in my family lately and to see anyone celebrating what is a tragedy for the involved family is quite disgusting and surely a football forum is not the place to do it.
 
Well said morgan. Lost my Dad last year and he was in his 80's. He had dementia too so this strikes a chord.

I didn't want to discuss politics because everyone has their own views that won't change now. But as you asked....seeing the likes of that terrorist Gerry Adams criticise Thatcher's policies today says it all. Bit rich from a guy who used to walk around West Belfast with an AK 47.

But each to their own. I accept she was a Marmite Prime Minister, but ultimately that's not my point. Bad form to laugh - let alone rejoice - at anyone's death imo.

Of course you have the right, all I am suggesting is, that if you do not want to comment on something, then just stay off the thread. For many people, this has been a long wait after the way she ripped the life and soul out of communities all over Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England.
 
She's the reason I'm in Canada - I was a steelworker and she took them on in 80/81 along with Sir Keith. In my visits home to Swansea through the 80s I saw a generation leaving school with little chance of work - but do I celebrate her death? Sorry I can't - I moved on.
As an aside I remember a Union Steward coming back from an international get together in 1979 and telling us that there would not be a steel industry in Britain in 10 years - he wasn't far off - but the strange thing is that it wasn't because of Maggie but because other countries were improving and building new more cost effective plants but as Max would say ' Maggie Thatcher got the blame'
 
Valley: if 'many people have had a long wait' for an 87 year old's death then they must be very sad individuals. I suggest they - and you - should have taken a leaf out of lumberjack's book and moved on. <ok>

Actually it was to secure Oil rights in the South Atlantic. It was also more to do with the military junta in Argentina trying to deflect from their own social and government problems than it was our political leaders, however the fact does remain that the tory government knew invasion was a likely factor but chose to ignore sending a larger military presence to ward off any take over.

My thoughts on Maggie are mixed, she was a **** to the working class but she earnt massive respect for the UK on the Global stage, something that we have totally lost nowadays. People are only looking inwards RE Maggie, world wide she was regarded as a person that took no **** and alot of our slimey euro cousins were very wary of her ..it kept them in check so to speak.

Hard choices had to be made,she needed to push the UK out of the Primary sector and into the secondary and tertairy sectors , we were the first country into the industrial reveloution and we were the first one out of it, this must not be underestimated it put us ahead of the curve in many respects.

Systamatically destroying the unions is something we have never recovered from, destroying whole areas/comunities and creating a **** you culture is also something we never recovered from, but listen up folks, this was always going to happen anyway regardless of Thatcher, if it wasnt her it was going to be someone else.

The beauty of politics is that there is always somebody to blame, truth is every single one of those ****ers is out for themselves and doesnt giv a flying **** about the working man, the sooner people take their head out of the sand and realise this the better!

Thatcher ? it could have been 20 other Tory or Labour ****s that would have done the same,they just wouldnt have had the balls to be so up front about it <ok>


Thatcher took us into strikes and destroyed the unions, Blair took us into an illegal war, brown took us into bancrupracy !!

Pick your **** boys there is plenty of choice..and they aint all Tories either !! <ok>

The country was in a terrible state in the 70's after years of Labour mismanagement (sound familiar?), the unions were too powerful and the economy led to us being called 'the sick man of Europe'. Did you live through the winter of discontent? There I go again - not discussing politics. <laugh>

Where's Dai - I'm sure Brendan would have made a better prime minister!! - C'mon boys let's not drag ouselves back to days I for one am happier not thinking about - because like Dai tells us about Ash, Vorm, JDG, Ml et al leaving - there's nothing we can do about it.

KJ i agree with what you say about how much control the unions had,it was truely insane!! an abuse of power not seen in eons!!e, there are so many topics to talk over here i just skimmed through them really !

As i said they are all ou to **** you over anyway doesnt matter if its thatcher ,your friendly union leader,blair,brown,camron etc,etc.

Well said Norway. The trouble with today's younger politicians is that they all fell off the same branch. If you did not know anything about Clegg, Cameron and Miliband, then you could easily see them as leaders of the Tory party. It was interesting on Question Time a few weeks back when somebody suggested that the unions should withdraw all financial support for the Labour party and create a new Labour party to represent the working class communities as the current lot are more concerned about cosying up to 'Middle England' than the people that the party was formed to defend.
