It's tradition FFS!!! IT IS TRADITION TO HAVE RED AND WHITE STRIPES FFS!!! Oh, wait, no it's not. We've had the rank xerox/air forida kit from the 80s, the dimplex kit, the pony 'V' kit, the sash, hell, we've even had a quartered kit ffs. Tradition? Bollocks.
That is fair enough and I am going to have to choose my games too, I can't go every week anyway which maybe is a good thing as far as my student loan is concerned. As for the kit, it's a simple calculation for Nicola that a similar kit to the previous year is going to result in less sales than a redesign, Q.E.D. That doesn't mean that anyone has to like it, but now might be a good time to get used to it. On a side note there's been a lot of dramatic reaction (thankfully on other boards rather than not606) and I am a bit worried that some fans are going to have to learn what losing feels like again, after all we have had it our own way for a pretty long time now...
Pretty much anything, I'm really not that bothered by tradition if I think the kit looks good, as I really do think this one does. I think as long as we stick to red and/or white (and the kit looks good), no complaints from me. Bollocks to tradition, if we were all about tradition we'd still be playing in the Dell.
I like both, but as I never buy kits, it's a bit of a non-question. For me, football kits are for footballers. I suppose I'll have to vote for the like it option as the Poll has been so unimaginatively constructed. When you're setting out a questionnaire. Think about it.
I guess the players are all going to sweat blood for us this season and we don't want too many stoppages to keep changing the shirts?
I would say we have played in red and white stripes for about 85%ish of our history. I would say that was a traditional. Apart from the sash which was acceptable due to the anniversary, you have listed some fairly crap kits. The point I was trying to make is that I doubt many fans other clubs would accept change so readily.
Take a look at our first few kits, and the take a look at the 1980s (our most successful time as a club) kits and then tell me that red & white stripes is what we've always worn: http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Southampton/Southampton.htm
In fairness lads, several studies have proven that teams in red are more successful than any other colour. True story.
Exactly. If we went back to those hideous quarters, I bet LOADS of fans would protest, despite "tradition".
The biggest suprise to me was the red shorts and the lack of any black, apart from the logo in the kit (the first time in over 60 years). I like the pinstripes, especially the away kit but would've preferred black to be incorporated somewhere in the design to keep our identity. I think it will be a massive seller in the far east which can only be good for the club's coffers.
The sash t shirts are the one's we should use every season if we are talking about tradition,I like the new kit though.
Yeah, what can get more traditional than our first ever kit? Surely we've been abandoning tradition ever since then (bar 2010/11)...?
I was going to mention staying at the dell. Instead I will mention our most successful season ever -1984. Oh wait we had an untraditional kit; let's wipe that season from our memory.
