I can't see why you you getting your knickers in a twist about whether he guessed or not, the fact of the matter is that the correct decision was made. whether it was guessed or he used his experienced in refereeing to sway his decision he got it right and should be applauded, not knocked for it!
it would have resulted in a free kick on the edge of the area but he couldn't give handball robbie - the lad (o'brien i think) was about 2 yards away and the ball was hit against his upper arm - he had no way of getting out of the way of it. it was one of those ones where inevitably we'll shout for it but know it probably won't be given
supers at no point was i knocking norwich with the ruddy comment, all i'm saying is you can tell the confidence the defence has in him, you could hear him on the tele instructing the defence plus its harder for a keeper because he can spend so much of the game 'watching' that when he needs to bring out a save it makes it all the more important, surely you can see that? i think you rating of a 6/7 out of 10 is a bit harsh, personally i would give him an 8 the same as JJ.
blimey, read back what you are typing cos it makes no sense. what you're saying is that the ref used experience to get the decision right... what bollocks! it was pure luck he called it right. whether it be an experienced or a more inexperienced ref made no difference - he guessed one way or the other and got it right. 50/50 call but thankfully (for the game, less so for us) he fluke'd the right call. it had nothing to do with experience. how could it? it took five or six replays afterwards to determine if he'd got it right or not and from one angle it looked like it was in the box. had that incident happened 10 times during the match he'd have probably got it right 5 times and wrong the rest. had he guessed wrongly would you be on here saying we got lucky cos the ref made a bad call? you're talking (not for the first time) complete guff
on the handball, i think it depends on a number of issues, if you try to block a shot and your arms are spread and the ball hits you from 2 yards the ref will give handball because he will say that you shouldn't have your arms spread out so it could have been avoided, but you have your arms by your side then the ref won't give it because your arms have to be somewhere.

supers, of course experience plays a part in it, a ref has to take a number of factors into consideration in a very short time period like where feet where planted and such like, i'm not saying there wasn't any luck involved but Foy is in a lot of a better place than us or pundits to make an instant judgement. Also, he made his mind up very quickly that it was a free-kick, he was pretty sure which makes me think he had a pretty good clue to the right decision.
I marked JJ down for his kicking off the ground which was pretty woeful at times, i believe he cocked up 3 times with back passes.
guru, what i am saying (and i assume you have seen the incident in question) is that it was impossible to tell in real time and extremely difficult to tell even in slow motion from some angles, whether or not it was on the line or not. on the line is a penalty, so the fact the contact was made, what, 1 inch at the absolute most outside the area is impossible to call at a) speed and b) distance. he guessed, he got it right. not sure why the argument really as i'm sure you're delighted he got it right - i'd rather he got it wrong, but you're idea that he got it right through experience is simply laughable.

on the subject of ruddy, its pleasing to see that fulham debacle aside, he's had next to nothing to do in any of our matches so far. i read last year that ruddy made the second most saves in the league (bizarrely de gea was 1st - just shows how many chances united gave their opponents) but he's being very well protected at the moment. credit to the coaching staff but especially to barnett and bassong. i was a little concerned about bassong because whenever i'd seen him play he's made a cock up which has led to a goal. interesting that i still worry he has a big gaff in him but i've been pleased with his leadership qualities and he's led barnett brilliantly. hopefully both players will keep this level of performance up.
I saw the incident, in real time from the tele i thought it was outside straight away, just my hunch. what i'm trying to say is whowever he made his decision (by experienced,tossing a coin,etc) he got it right and shouldn't be questioned on whether he would have gave it at old trafford or not.
so i give you a perfectly good reason why i rated JJ as an 8 the same as ruddy, yet i still get 'D'OH'. JJ was lucky that Reid was alert a couple of times or he could have cost wet sham a couple of goals, yet you would still rate a keeper as an 8 even after this? you really are a bit wierd with your thinking, i praising you keeper yet even that is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!
From the opposite side of the ground I felt it was a contraversial decision and couldn't make an accurate decision myself but the fact that the tackle was made from inside the are with momentum going out would have influenced the decision - going against Surman's run rather than with it which would have caused him to fall into the penalty area so the chances of a penalty would have been more likely.
a couple of miscued clearances (i can only recall one to be fair) do not warrant a mark the same as a keeper who had two fairly straight forward saves and bugger all else except the odd back pass. he had a cracking display where he made one world class save from jackson, a stunning string of four saves in 20 seconds and numerous other saves. he effectively won them a point on his own, allardyce said as much. he was outstanding, ruddy had his routine, comfortable game between the sticks and wasn't troubled. jaaskeleinen deserved an 8 or maybe even a 9, ruddy deserved a 6 or a 7 at best. your bias is making you write some seriously bad ****e on here today!
it happened close to me and my first reaction was 'stonewall penalty', though of course it would be! i felt he'd got it wrong though. had the linesman flagged i would have accepted it more readily but he just stood there like a plum. it wasn't till the 4th replay at half time that everyone in the ground accepted it was outside the box and it was a close up from an ant's persepective and super-slow motion. no way the ref knew for sure, absolutely no way.
Absolutely. You used term "accidental", and I was trying to get clear in my own mind just what you meant. I thought maybe you meant "unintentional", hence my clarification; but in fact you quite correctly meant "unavoidable". I certainly wasn't suggesting the ref got it wrong.
Clearly Guru is not interested in being serious today. Shame really, I only wanted to ask him how it felt to be in the relegation zone of the Championship!
